I got my last pair at Preston Farmers. Pates' closed down? Nothing is safe!
What grabbed me yesterday was a tiny pen drive that holds 64gig of data... witchcraft!

Michael, the same thought has crossed my mind. I watched some of young Golding's match yesterday and reflected that he could easily be the next Tim. The present incumbent doesn't look like a strong prospect to me and I am expecting that haunting call to float down at some point during one of his matches.
What is exciting me today is that if all goes well Wendy will kidnap me and take me to see how the hillside has changed since I was delivering groceries up there almost sixty years ago. Should be interesting....

Interesting that as fast as the Bloom team plant stuff someone/some people appear to be purloining them, as their is no evidence of vandalism and just gaps

I've put this in the "What's on" section as well. If the advertising is too blatant let me know and I'll remove it from this thread.

Went to Guidel today and they are resurfacing a full road wonderful to drive without pot holes. The traffic management leaves a lot to be desired but eh at least money is being spent on the roads. Eileen

I can't see any objection to that Kev. Local venue, local talent and related to a member. Nowt wrong with any of that! (Better looking than you were at that age as well!)
Good piece on World Service about obesity and super size portions. The last part of 'The Men who Made you fat' is on BBC2 tonight.
The Bomber Command memorial is to be unveiled this afternoon. About time. Regardless of well-funded misgivings about the strategy using hindsight, these were brave men doing a dangerous job and I can tell you from experience that if the critics had been bombed themselves they would be a lot slower to criticise. We certainly didn't at the time.

The Town Council last night agreed to support moving the recycling bins from outside the co-op up onto the Rainhall Road car park.
Then they can pull that wall down, and open up the cenotaph and memorial gardens for easier access

Forgot this from yesterday, but I did ask the Council why
The park workers outside the cenotaph gardens and toilets yesterday left their van parked in a disabled spot in the car park until they were asked to move it by someone quite irate

I like the news about the recycling bins, never having been happy about their proximity to the War Memorial, great stuff and well done. And If I keep on finding new names at the current rate the extra space may be useful!

What grabbed my attention last night was the Olympic Rings fitted to Tower Bridge. £300.000!!! What are they made of, Titanium?? If the cost is reflected in terms of skill in construction the Narrowboat "Red Admiral" built in Barlick should be worth about £15,000,000 by now!

Big problem with siting the bins on Rainhall Road car park is that the footfall there is too low. People on foot will not use them. The Co-op car park is a hub and that's why the bins are so well-used.

Is there much foot traffic to recycle? (genuine question)

yes there is
although I don't think that it will affect the grill who use the bottle bank for their empties rather than paying a contract waste company to remove them.

Welcome to the site Ann! Like Bodge I am retired and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Explore the site and dig into the archives, lots of stuff to interest you I'm sure or you wouldn't be here! Fell free to join in, the denizens don't bite!
What attracted my attention was Tom Philips reposting the video he made using my pics of Peter Tatham my old steeplejack. He was a wonderful craftsman and his work is still up there marking the skyline at Ellenroad , Bancroft and Masson Mill to name only three stacks. Great days!
