Funny thing these clots. If I hadn't had good clotting I'd have bled to death!

Some years ago one of those movable hand cranes toppled over and hit me on the head, yes I know never been the same since. Besides nearly putting my lights out I finished up with a gash in my head about one inch long, blood everywhere. Off to Airedale who said they didn't want to shave a bold patch in my hair and try stitching it up so they used superglue to hold the wound together. Worked a treat.

Mine was bigger than all of yours, 9" and 26 staples. I still have two and a bit entry holes and can feel the heads of a couple of internal screws they used to fasten the top of my skull back on :extrawink: :laugh5:

I do miss the "Boils" thread. :laugh5:

And carbuncles...... Pus and blood! Those were the days when we doctored ourselves.
Re. hair, First thing Vicky did was shave my head, I reckon it will be the hair growing that lifts the dressing off. Sticky dressings are handy but a bugger to remove....

The latest health scare is now Monkey Pox. Apparently it is hoped that the old small pox vaccine will give some resistance to this new virus. For those who were born before 1956 most carry a scar on their arm from this vaccine. Been there, got the Tee shirt, sort of thing. No doubt we will seeing many of the golden oldies proudly displaying their scar as a badge of purity. We may even get shirts with a flap like those in Tripps's joke to verify their credentials.

Who would have thought that being old had its advantages. :biggrin2:

I must have had Smallpox vaccine multiple times (The army used to jab you for everything!) but I don't think I have a scar.....
Update on hole in the head. Nothing to report, all quiet and not even a bit of irritation. Nurse Vicky calls in to examine the dressing on Wednesday, Paramedic Laura agrees with this and the plan is to leave it alone as long as it feels OK and let the evidently good healing go on under it undisturbed.
I've been lucky.... (or am I just a tough old bugger!)

Good to hear, a sure sign of healing.

On to the lower dose of anti coagulants today, starting to see some definition in my foot now. The discolouration has gone from my leg and it just aches a bit now. Another appointment with the DVT unit this week, hopefully just another 6 months of the drugs.

Head is fine and Vicky comes tonight to have a look and see if anything needs doing. The intention is to leave it strictly alone as it's clean and healing. There will be pics..... :biggrin2:

As I said when you proudly showed me your battle wound. :laugh5: The dressing needed changing but I forgot to mention that the adhesive on the Primapore dressing can cause itching on the skin. Ask your nurse Vicky to see if there is any sign of irritation.

Hair growing fast and lifting plaster off. Vicky agrees with me, leave it another week or until the plaster peels of by itself. She must have done a good job......

The dressing is well on the way to falling off. I've suggested Nurse Vicky calls in to inspect at her convenience. I expect it to dome off.
I have been protecting the dressing with an Islamic prayer hat, a 'Kufi' which is a cotton knitted skull cap Ideal for the job. I shall continue to wear a skull cap on a shaven head for the foreseeable future and have ordered a heavier embroidered one from Kyrgyzstan. A 'Topu'. I do like unusual headgear!

Vicky called and gently peeled the dressing off. As you can see, it's perfectly healed and the remaining steri strips will peel off when they are ready.
I think you will agree... she has done a wonderful job, you can just see the line of the cut , but only just.

Very impressive - and so quick.

I've just googled Topu and as a recent Fipper recruit, (fully paid up and now card carrying) I must from loyalty recommend a flat cap from Failsworth hats instead.

Here's a link Failsworth caps Fantastic range of caps I'd say.
I think the Breton / Jeremy Corbyn look would suit.

Looks to be healing nicely. While we're sharing war wounds, there's definitely improvement in the leg.

Wonderful! I am so glad for you. Look after it, don't be doing anything silly (like laying a fresh water pipe!).
David, I already have three Failsworth caps......
I'll post pics with the Islamic Prayer hat and the embroidered skull cap from Kyrgyzstan when the latter arrives......
