Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Later..... It's cold, wet and windy out there. I feel sorry for anyone out in it (including rough sleepers).
The shipping forecast gives the flavour, gale warnings in all areas except Biscay and many winds reaching Force11, not far short of hurricanes.....

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday we reverted to overcast wind and rain as night fell on the shortest day. This morning it is windy and very cold and there is evidence of what looks like a recent shower of very large snow flakes but no direct evidence as they have melted. The glass has fallen to 995mb and the forecast is for a windy day (yellow warning) with possible snow showers until late morning. The constant NW wind will be strong gusting to 60 mph and giving us a high of 5C and a low of 0C tonight with as much as a -7C wind chill at times. It will feel like sub-zero all day and night and into tomorrow morning. Wrap up warm! The outlook is for heavily overcast weather with another cold day tomorrow and then into double figures for the rest of the week.
Hard sleet showers since then.... (04:00)

We’ve been enjoying some very calm and ‘just right’ temps for the last few days.
.
But check out what we have coming for Christmas and Boxing Day.
Lucky for me that I won’t be hosting.

It’s freezing cold out, quite a lot of heavy cloud cover, and strong blustery winds.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was windy and cold but mainly dry. It had cleared by dark an d remained clear for most of the night. This morning it's clear, cold and dry and we have a light breeze. The glass has risen to 1017mb and the forecast is for it to stay clear until dawn but then slowly become heavily overcast with light rain possible in the afternoon. The mainly SW winds will be light to moderate and we can expect a high of 6C with a low of 6C tonight and a wind chill of -4C. It will feel bitterly cold until mid-morning and then start warming up a bit. That's the story for the outlook for the rest of the week, heavy overcast and much warmer, into double figures in fact.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon stayed with the forecast and light rain came in at about 15:00. The sky cleared by dark and we started into a cold clear night but it gradually clouded over and warmed up. This morning we have a light breeze, overcast and light rain. The glass is still steady on 1017mb and the forecast is for a breezy, overcast day with light rain. The constant WSW wind is moderate gusting to over 30mph and the high is 11C and the low 9C tonight with a constant wind chill of -3C all day. The outlook for the next six days is for the same weather, apart from the fact it is forecast to be dry.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday stuck with the forecast and we had wind and light rain under a heavily overcast sky all day. As far as I could see it was overcast all night but strangely light.... This morning we have overcast, a light breeze and it is dry. The glass has risen and is on 1025mb. The forecast is for a dry day but heavily overcast all day. The wind is a constant moderate WSW and gusts to almost 30mph all day. We can expect a high of 10C and a low of 8C tonight with a constant -3C wind chill all day. The outlook is the same until Monday when it might start brightening a little and getting colder.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday broke with the forecast because we had light rain for most of the afternoon. This morning first thing we had a very light breeze, overcast but dry. It hasn't changed since. The glass is up on 1030mb and the forecast is for a dry overcast day. The constant WSW wind will be light and gives us a high of 9C and a low of 7C tonight with a -2C wind chill. The outlook shows no sign of significant change until the beginning of next week. There is a hint that as we pass into 2025 it could get much colder......

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon was classic dunkelflaute in that it was overcast, gloomy and dry. This morning first thing it was calm, cool and we had a thick mist making everything damp. Since then the mist has lifted a little. The glass is steady on 1030mb and the forecast is for mist all day. (I don't know whether it's me but it feels colder out there than earlier.) The constant WSW wind is light and we can expect a high of 8C and a low of 6C tonight with a wind chill of -2C all day. Tomorrow will be a very similar day to today and then we settle back into heavy overcast until mid-week. It may get wetter by then. Not exciting weather but who wants exciting...... ?

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday stuck to the forecast, even though it brightened a touch in the late afternoon it was misty all day. We were saved form the worst of it by the fact that we sit at about 500 feet up in the Pennines. From the news, it was far worse lower down. This morning first thing we still had mist and a very light cool breeze. The glass seems to falling and is on 1026mb. The forecast is again for fog or mist all day. The constant WSW wind starts light and becomes moderate as the day progresses. We can expect a high of 6C and a low of 6C tonight with a wind chill of -3C as the wind increases. The outlook is for the same weather until at least Wednesday with perhaps more chance of a rain shower. After that it could brighten but become colder.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was another day of gloom but reasonably mild. It was still overcast at 19:00 and stayed that way all night. First thing this morning, guess what? We had a light breeze and it was overcast but mild. It is still the same. The glass is down slightly on 1024mb and tending to fall. The forecast is for a dry day but heavily overcast. The constant WSW wind is going to be brisk and gusts to almost 40mph later in the day. We can expect a high of 8C and a low of 7C tonight with a -4C wind chill all day. The outlook is for another day similar to today tomorrow then mild and wet on Tuesday and after that a change to colder drier and dare we say, clearer, weather as we move into 2025.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday afternoon stayed dry but the wind was stronger and it was cool. This morning we have a breeze and broken cloud overcast but it's dry. The glass is down on 1020mb and tending to fall. The forecast is for heavy overcast all day but dry. The constant WSW wind is brisk and gusts to almost 50mph giving us a high of 9C and a low of 7C tonight with up to -5C wind chill. Tomorrow will be a similar day to today but with heavy rain and on Wednesday the real change happens with a fall in temperature and yellow warnings for wind and snow. Same for Thursday and a night time temperature of -7C is forecast. I think we can say that we have a blast of winter coming down from the North!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday in the late afternoon we had a brief glimpse of a bright light in the sky, I think it was the sun! This morning it's calm and clear but the Met Office says it's breezy and heavily overcast. Take your pick! Having written that I went out and had another look, 30 minutes later and we have a light breeze and broken overcast so they may be right. The glass continues to fall and is down on 1015mb. The forecast is for heavy rain starting early in the morning around 10:00 and there is a yellow warning of heavy rain in force from 18:00 onwards. They were talking about snow but that seems to have dropped out of the forecast. The SW or WSW wind is to be brisk, gusting to 50mph and we can expect a high of 10C and a low of 3C tonight with a wind chill of -5C for much of the day. Tomorrow is another windy wet day but the story is that it is rapidly cooling as we enter 2025.
