Local Somerset news, nothing surprises me in Somerset:
`Man trapped in Bridgwater clothing recycling bank'
"A clothing recycling bank in a Somerset town had to be forced open to release a man trapped inside. Rescue crews were sent to Binford Place in Bridgwater at 06:35 GMT to reports that someone was inside the temporary facility and in need of help. "On arrival, crews confirmed there was a male stuck inside the clothing bank," said Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service. "Small tools and manpower" were all that was needed to release him.

My DBS certificate came through yesterday to say that I am a fit person to work with children, no black marks from any agency. I also got notification from LCC of my self service payroll logon details so I can claim my hours worked.

It's a while since I used the online claim system which just used to be for on the job expenses. The link to the dedicated payroll help files on the system doesn't work.

Sleeping later than usual. Even in the hard days I always made sure that at least one night a week I slept until I woke naturally. I believe that your body knows what it needs and if you give it a chance it will make sure you get all the sleep you need.

Glad to hear they have sorted your birthday, Stanley! I hope it is lovely for you ( 80 years is a biggie)

Ha! I had to read that one about the motion detector twice ( I am thickly insulated by a cold just now and have the cotton wool brain that accompanies the affliction)....but I get it!
I couldn't help thinking back to the air fresheners mounted in both bathrooms when we moved into this house that squirted every time we walked past them. Choking cloud of scent. I had to remove them. I found them overpowering. Some folk really love perfume/scent/after shave/air freshener but I can't breathe...
Just another thing I find difficult about air travel too. One either finds themselves sat close to another passenger oozing Garlic from every pore, or a "perfumed princess" who has tried every fragrance in the duty free while waiting for her flight.

I would much rather have the garlic smell than any perfumed air fresheners! There was an item on Trust Me I'm a Doctor recently about perfumed products and the toxicity levels they create in our homes. HERE

I have been voicing my suspicions about 'air fresheners' and related products for years. I can remember when the kids used to jump on my lap just to get the smell of cattle and cow muck when I came home after a long day. They like the smell of cutting oil as well, they love the smell in the shed! I'm afraid that these days I smell of pipe tobacco and Old Man! I gave Mick a spare Barbour Jacket I had and six months later he swears he can still smell the Condor!

The finding of a Bronze Age wheel at the Must Farm archaeological site: LINK

Another archaeology development is the dig to find the remains of a crashed WW2 Spitfire which was named `Kerala' (it's production was funded from India). It's claimed to be the first time such a dig has been done to archaeology standards rather than by aircraft history enthusiasts. The pilot's body had been removed immediately after the crash, so there wasn't anything to prevent the digging. The story had always been that the aircraft nose-dived into the ground from high altitude during a training flight in 1940, either due to the pilot blacking out or to mechanical failure. The dig has shown that it went in at a low angle and the pilot was probably still trying to get out of the dive. Also that the aircraft's ammunition included `high explosive bullets' (perhaps they mean cannon shells) that were never carried on training missions. This suggests the aircraft was on an operational mission, backed up by records showing it had been on operations in previous days.

The peaty earth has also preserved soft items such as padding from the seat. A broken kitchen-type plate with RAF insignia was found in the hole and they think this might have been from the RAF men who were at the site during the war to recover the pilot's body. The plate probably got broken and they threw it in the hole as they back-filled it...but being archaeologists the present diggers can't resist suggesting that might have had an element of `ritual' attached to it!

Finding the Bronze Age wheel is good. The more we look, the more we realise they were a lot smarter and more advanced than was suspected before.

Yet another moronic Tory, I have downer on Boris already but he has now been added to my list of idiots on bikes without helmets. What kind of an example is this? He set of into London traffic today with just his stupid noddy type beanie hat on. He's not alone, Cameron never wears a helmet and I have also seen Osborn doing the same, bloody idiots, they deserve to get knocked off.
