Just had notification it's rescheduled.

That sounds sensible. I've re-scheduled normal life until conditions improve! This is not good weather for old men! XXX

I've abandoned an attempt to walk up to the road. There are huge drifts across our track and the wind nearly blew me over once I got clear of the house.

Yesterday afternoon the 'snow' was mainly cold rain. There has been a light fall of snow during the night but it's stopped now and the warnings cease at 06:00. The glass fell all day yesterday and is down on 971mb this morning. The forecast is for the snow to taper off until 10:00 and then cease but as it says it's snowing and it isn't at the moment I think we might be able to ignore that. The winds are brisk and northerly, gusting to 35mph , until this evening when they back into the West. We can expect a wind chill of as much as -6C for most of the day. The outlook is for brighter colder weather until the end of the week when with a bit of luck we'll loose the frost. I see nothing to tempt me out of the door yet!

I think it was the day before Christmas Eve when I was in a local store somewhere. Overheard a little girl say to parent "Its Christmas - It will snow on Christmas Day", I did think that she would be disappointed in this warmer down south area, and indeed as often in the last couple of weeks of December the wet warmish easterlies bring wind, but more often rain or general overcastness , which is what we actually had. Forward to Jan 6th and the 13 day gap that sees the Coptic and most Orthodox Christian Traditions stick with Celebrating Christmas and to a significant bit of England indeed the snow has come, the Atlantic has cooled a bit and the winds switch to north / north-west and the artic air meet the slightly warm rain, fortunately the SE of England the colder air didnt get the message to come this far and so we avoid most of the travel chaos news ( OK Bolton gets a small tick on BBC this morning ) , to be faced with cold rain instead.

Yesterday saw a slow thaw and the snow retreated in Barlick. Sorry to hear about the drifts at Lower Burnt Hill..... No snow overnight and this morning it's overcast and a light frost but so far it's dry. The glass is up from the low in the 970s yesterday and is on 987mb and rising. The forecast is for bright broken overcast giving us some sunny intervals but also a chance of a light snow shower late morning. The light to moderate WSW wind will gust to almost 35mph allowing us a high of 2C, a low of -5C tonight and a wind chill of -5C for much of the day. The outlook is for brighter, drier but much colder weather.

I cleared a lot of snow yesterday but not enough to get down to the length of track we share with the neighbours. They were attempting to clear that but struggling, the drifts are just too deep. After dark I saw the lights of their very large telehandler going through up to the road so hopefully it will be possible to drive up now. We don't really need to get out for anything, but it would be good to know we could!

The light was amazing yesterday afternoon and though this photo isn't very clear, I'm sure I could see the snow covered tops of Lake District mountains from my window. Look to the far right of the skyline and there are jagged peaks. I have never seen that before!!

Much the same here Stanley, roads clear, pavements could be better and fields still quite a covering. We went to Preston hospital yesterday and once we got clear of Longridge on the Whittingham road the snow all but cleared, by the time we got to Preston hospital it was all gone.

It's dreadful u8nderfoot here Gloria. I looked at the forecast for the rest of the week and decided I had to get some shopping in because it's getting worse. I went out this morning as soon as I got up from second sleep and minced round to the Co-op. When I came out I decided to avoid the steps and go the long way round. I hadn't got out of the car park when a lady called Lynne stopped and informed me she was putting my shopping in the boot and taking me home! She did just that and brought my loaded trolley down the back street and into the house. Then she gave me her phone number and got me to promise I wouldn't do anything as silly as that again. She has persuaded me that she would like my shopping as a project!

We now have sleety snow, and it’s very slippery underfoot. It’s winter, this is what it’s like.

And in my opinion a smart move Kev. As was my shopping yesterday, it was dangerous but I got away with it thanks to a passing angel. Today is far worse, it's lethal out there and like you, I shall not be going out!.
Yesterday afternoon the slow thaw continued but it spoilt itself by having a couple of flurries of snow. The sky cleared as it came dark and this morning it is clear and breezy and we have a hard frost so it is even worse underfoot. The glass has risen to 997mb and the forecast is for a clear day with full sun which will look nice but do us no good at all. There is a yellow warning of ice in force until midday but they might as well have left it on until midnight on Thursday!
This morning's westerly winds are light and gradually decrease until midday when they tend more to the east. We can expect a high of 0C and a low tonight of -12C. There will be a wind chill of -5C at times and the perceived temperature will get as low as -11C before the sun starts to help a little. The outlook is for another day like this tomorrow and then a slow rise in temperature will start that means Saturday will see the start of a thaw which by Monday will be in double figures. There is hope but we need to be sensible and avoid the cold for another three days.

Yesterday was exactly as the forecast. It stayed clear all day and through the night. This morning it is still clear with a light breeze and a temperature of -11C. The glass is up a touch on 999mb and rising. The forecast is for a clear dry day with full sun. The westerly winds are light to moderate and we can expect a high of 1C and a low tonight of -12C with a constant wind chill of -4C. The outlook is that after a cold start to tomorrow the temperature will start to rise and by the beginning of next week we will see a sub tropical 10C. Roll on!

Bought a new thermometer for the back yard, I can see it from the back door and one of the CCTV cameras. Can't quite see the Celsius scale on the camera but it's currently -6 here in Foulridge.

Yesterday afternoon was full sun again but as dusk fell the temperature started to drop and we had -7C plus the -5C wind chill. We had a clear sky and a brilliant, almost full moon. (Wolf Moon on the 13th....) This morning it's the same and we have -12C. The glass is up on over 1014mb and rising. The forecast is simple, clear all day with full sun. The wind is light and starts in the west but by 09:00 it is in the east and stays there for the rest of the day. We can expect a high of 2C and a low tonight of -7C including the wind chill of -4C so we are seeing the last of the low temperatures for a day or two! The outlook is for another clear day like today on Sunday but then with the full moon the cloud comes in and the temperature rises. By Wednesday we can expect 10C! That means my imprisonment in the house will be over and life can get back to normal.
