Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Well done Gloria!! It's a telescopic gun-sight and as I said earlier, I suspect it's off a 2pdr anti tank gun. I say this because it is a scaled down version of the larger sight we had on the 17pdr. It was always removed and kept in a safe place when the gun was travelling.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Congratulations, Gloria! I was going to make this photo my next mystery for you all - where is it? But then I realised it would be easy to find out by googling the appropriate keywords. Never mind, it's still an interesting photo and worth showing on OG!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I haven't cheated and don't know. At a guess it's in the US and they saved on building the underpass. Where is that I have seen a 747 taxiing over my head?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Yes, Gloria gets the right answer again - did you know it or did you google it? I'll bet you knew without googling! The road is Winston Churchill Way at Gibraltar airport. You have to take this road if you want to travel between Gib and the mainland. Here's more information about it: LINK
When I showed the pic to Mrs Tiz she said "If you fly to the Scilly Isles you'll find that they have to close the road for the aircraft to land" but she admitted it's not quite on the scale of the Gib airport!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
China is closest. It's a Vulcan insurance company pump for hydraulically testing boilers....

If that's an extractor, and the things on the sides are to buffer something bouncing about, is it for a tumble dryer??

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Looks like a bit of a gash job not up to Col's perfectionist standard so I can only think its a chimney lining above the stove.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
It is the stove. I've been giving it a good clean up and the hotplate has been removed so I can clean around it. That is the view down towards the oil burner. The fan lookalike in the bottom must spread the flames which heat up the hotplate before heading off over the top of the oven to the right.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
In that case congratulations! It's a very clean burn so the air/fuel mixture must be excellent. It reminds me of the exhaust pipe on the old Bedford Queen Mary we had at Harrisons. It had a big GM six cylinder petrol engine in it and one tiny Zenith single choke carburettor, ridiculously small for the size of the engine but the inside of the exhaust pipe was always a lovely deep chestnut colour, a sign of perfect mixture on leaded petrol.
