I'm glad to see the shadowed side of the Moon agrees with the direction of the tree shadows on Earth!

I always find sunsets difficult to photograph. I see a stunning deep orange red sunset but my photo looks nowt like it. Far too light in colour. If I adjust the camera by a couple of stops everything else is in the dark whereas my eye shows me it should be light. I suppose it's because eyes and brains are more clever than the camera!

I always said that the west coast of any region is the best for photography as the sunsets are out at sea....

You're right there, the eye is constantly adjusting. Some of the newer smartphones have a built in High Dynamic Range (HDR) setting. If that works the same as how I use HDR, with camera and Photoshop, it'll take multiple images and then blend them. This gives almost the same as your eye sees.

The moon is in it's original position, just made bigger in Photoshop.

I've been commissioned to create a montage of swimming hats for a retired swimming coach. Should keep me out of mischief for a bit, there's 9 in total.
A simple setup using a bedsheet, a shaped piece of cardboard to hold the hat flat and a roll of masking tape to prop it up. I used on camera flash with a Stofen diffuser.


I have all the individual images, just need to put them all together in one image in Photoshop now.

A brown hyena standing beside the ruins of an abandoned diamond mining settlement has earned wildlife photographer Wim van den Heever the title of Wildlife Photographer of the Year. He set up his camera trap after spotting fresh hyena tracks in the ghost town of Kolmanskop, Namibia. It took him ten years to get the shot, he said. The brown hyena, the rarest of all hyena species, is primarily nocturnal and tends to live a solitary life. For years, Mr van den Heever searched the deserted town, finding only traces of the elusive animal. "I knew they were there, but actually photographing one was just never going to happen," he says he thought. He was awarded the prize at London's Natural History Museum. All the images have had the nod, I just need to sort a few layouts for approval. There's a couple in there signed by Kathryn Willis, one of the GB Olympic swimmers from 2012.
The Horwich image didn't have a hat, I only had the logo so had to use one of the other images and do some jiggery pokery with it.

Impressive but not something I could get enthusiastic about doing. That's a reflection on me Kev not you!

Colin's camera needs a new home. It's a Canon EOS 70d (w) with a couple of lenses. Any recommendations on how to go about selling it and what it might be worth?

I've had advice from a couple of friends in the history society who are both keen photographers. They both recommended contacting the London Camera Exchange if I want to sell it and the lenses. The batteries are completely dead so my friend has taken it home to get them charged up and to check all is good with the camera. He will also check the shutter count for me, though the camera has hardly been used by the looks of it.
