I realised I had to write articles, none on the stock pile! Wrote two and declined the shed. No day is wasted.......

On Thursday we went to Shepton Mallet for our first visit to Stanley's American friends Martha and Roger who have settled there. Stanley will be lecturing to Martha's students in Cambridge this summer. What a lovely couple, I can see why he's so fond of them and why they've been such good friends for so many years. They're in economics and history and we're in science, but we each share an interest in the others' subjects which makes for plenty of interesting discussions - there's never any need to resort to last night's TV soap opera when you've got Martha and Roger to talk to! And Martha makes scrumptious cake!

My electromagnetic cross trainer has stopped working, a month ago it worked today it doesn't. There's power to the board but nothing fires up. If anyone wants it to repair (could be an internal fuse) it's free to collect (Barlick). Any questions just ask :-)

Not got room for one Kev and I can still use the hills or my bike for a CV workout, neither of which need plugging in.

That's another reason for my not bothering to try fixing it, Ian. It rarely gets used especially with summer coming up (hahaha). It'll probably end up at the tip. I'll keep the 24 volt power supply and the socket off the machine, that bit's less than a year old and may come in handy :-)

I have several power adapters too, Ian. This one will have the bonus of a socket as well, no idea what I'll use it for but you never know :-)

I had forgotten how annoying Autumn can be.
The muck that collects around my front door every morning is unbelievable...soggy leaves etc. This mornings lot contained Bougenvillia blooms, yet I can't see anyone with such a plant in my street.

Leicester winning the Premier League. Some lucky punters backed them early in the season at 5000/1.
Mark Selby beating Ding Junhui after a very close fought match.

One of the pilots posting on the forum linked by Tripps seemed to be saying it was an airliner owned by a London-based company rented out to Air France. The forum posts also say that a tanker aircraft was circling in case the jets had to stay up for an extended period or travel a long distance. I suppose the RAF may keep tankers on station at the moment because of the Russian intrusions, which may also account for the Typhoons being able to give such a rapid response.

Mercedes having to respond to conspiracy theories about sabotage of Hamilton's car. The miracle is that any of them finish they are so complicated. What will happen when the Law of Averages hits Rosberg? It was OK when he was in the same position.
Today we can exercise our democratic rights. If there is any justice the verdict will go to the ones who have worked hardest.....

We went to the polling station in the village hall at about 11.30 to place our vote in the PCC election. We were surprised to be given two votes, a first and second choice. We didn't even know about that. The election officers were looking very bored and we were the only people there. At that point only 2% of the village had voted and the officers weren't optimistic for much more. On our way back we spoke to another villager who was driving out to do her shopping in the local town. When we mentioned the election she thought it was for local councillors. I'll be interested to see what the final turnout is.

I haven't voted yet. I surrendered my postal vote now that I can stagger to the booth. I've just had to google to find out what election(s) is (are) taking place. Seems just for Police and Crime Commissioner. I had a leaflet and email from the Liberals - and we have a very good and active local County Councillor of that persuasion - so I shall reward them for their effort.

Just in case anyone is travelling this evening...

Advance Warning - M65 Eastbound closed due to roadworks during the night between J10 A671 (Burnley / Padiham) and J13 A682 / A6068 (Nelson). Barrier upgrade works have now been completed but an overnight closure is necessary to facilitate the removal of traffic management and average speed cameras. The Westbound restrictions have already been lifted. From 20:00 on the 5th to 5:00 on 6th May.

One of the many advantages about being able to decline car ownership and driving is that news like that has zero impact Kev.
I spoiled my PCC paper, it's a travesty! I was the first to vote in my category (the low electoral numbers) the ladies were quite excited to see me. I sent David a copy of Jenny Purcell's (Con.) latest flyer which was a perfect example of half truths and negative campaigning. In contrast, the LibDem flyer simply listed the achievements of the Town Centre Committee in which the Tories have zero input. If there is any justice they will get the two seats. Remember this is a life-long Labour voter.
The early results are coming in and the broad picture is that in Scotland Labour are losing out to the Tories and the LibDems are being hammered. In England the Labour vote is holding up well when the forecast was that they would be heavy losers. The Corbyn effect has not damaged them as much as what was forecast by the experts.

Thought you lot had a politics topic?

Cooler/Wetter weather heading our way. Shock/horror as I searched for a pair of socks at sunset, and hubby donned a very fetching cardigan ( though I do wish he would give it a good tug in the middle at the back, cos he looks like a hunchback the way the hemline of his cardi rises up back there...) :laugh5:

Stop whingeing Woman! It was what grabbed my attention.
How much life maintenance needs to be done before I can get in the shed!
The fact that my trouser braces were getting quite tatty. I've been meaning to do something about this for weeks but keep forgetting so yesterday I bit the bullet and ordered three new sets. More money vanishing out of the Burial Fund!

Worn braces...see...that would annoy me too.
Good Lad for ordering new ones ( one must keep up appearances!)
Buggar the funeral fund. You won't be needing it in the next decade...

It's Doc's birthday today, it's announced atthe bottom of the home page but came up on my FB feed. I wished him happy birthday, he's currently slumming it around Trinidad and Tobago.
