That's optimistic Maz! Than you, they will be here tomorrow.... What with a new carpet, six pairs of underpants and three sets of braces I am being forced into expenditures I thought I might avoid by dying! It's a disadvantage of old age, your clothes wear out.
The main thing on my mind was finishing tapping the stud holes in my two cylinders.... It gets very boring when you have about 50 to do and if you don't watch out you get careless and before you know it you've broken a tap in the casting which is a disaster. As it happened I avoided this and I'm glad they are behind me but all that repetition work woke my shoulder up again.....

Why only 6 pairs of underpants? There are 7 days in a week.
And why do we call them "pairs" of underpants?
I've told you before there is no point being the richest corpse in the graveyard. Enjoy your money whilst alive.
( and heaven knows new undies can be listed as necessary, not luxury)
I bought 4 pairs of slippers yesterday, in different colours. Not reckless spending - I like a choice!

Strange as it might seem Maz, most blokes underpants come in packs of three or six. Pair of underpants, same as a pair of trousers I suppose, not many one legged trousers about.

Four pairs of slippers is a bit excessive in my book, I have one pair of leather moccasins that I have had for years but I'm a bloke. My wife Sally does the choice bit with glasses, lots of variations around the current colour scheme (I blame Specsavers two for one) and of course shoes which goes without question.

I still have many older but serviceable pairs available as well Maz! The new ones are fine and very good value, only thing is of course you wonder if the people who made them are treated well.... New braces arrived yesterday, must go through the old ones and ditch the tired ones.... Three seats of heavy and three light. Amazing how much better the new ones are!
Mr and Mrs Tiz on holiday for a week so we lose the benefit.....

The item about Nutter Cote in Thornton on the local news. A grade 2 listed house demolished by the new owners leaving the next door property in a dangerous condition. Astonishing!

I didn't see the news item Wendy but was shocked to see the demolition last week. It started a few weeks ago with substantial groundwork's, fencing and walling being done. We thought it could be being developed into a garden centre or a small market garden or something. I was going to see if any plans had been approved by Craven District Council too see if I could find out a bit more.

According to the TV report they had been granted permission for an extension but did the demolition while the couple next door were on holiday, leaving sections of their house just covered by plastic sheeting. You can see it on iplayer, it is quite shocking!

I have since found it on the Look North FB site. I posted it on Barlick Talk FB and it's got quite a lot of ongoing feedback.

I can't believe one can buy undies with "heavy" and "light" seats. Truly bizarre!

Very handy Maz when you are mildly incontinent.....
Nutter Cote.... If the part that has been demolished is the building put up by young Hemingway in the 1960s as a dairy and then rapidly converted into a house (He and his wife lived in a caravan and milked a few cows) it is no great loss. If it is the building I have in mind it was the worst construction ever! He made about two kits of milk a day and often missed the wagon. His Land Rover stuck in reverse gear one day when he had to bring his milk in so he reversed all the way to Marton, I remember he had two left hand wellies on that day.....

He sounds quite hilarious, Stanley.
Living in the right place... "Nutter" Cote then.

He was Maz, noted for doing things his own way. Can't remember his forename, was it Roddie?

From what has been posted over on Facebook, I believe its the farm. The owners had permission to knock down the added extension but went the whole way and demolished the Grade II listed Farm building as well. Right up to the party wall which has left the next door cottage in an unstable state. Apparently it was done while Geoff and Joan were on holiday so they came back to having to move out of their property.

From the Planing Approval notice -
"Reasons for approval The proposed single storey extension is considered acceptable in terms of design, materials, scale and appearance to respect the original building and to not have a detrimental impact on the neighbouring property or existing street scene. The proposal would not have a harmful impact on the neighbouring property in terms of loss of privacy or amenity. The proposal is therefore considered to meet the requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework and Saved Policy H20 of the Craven District (Outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park) Local Plan."

I wonder how good their contract is with the builder.... Good example of the minefield you can walk into when doing something like this..... Very bad management and planning.
Got very welcome mail from a mutual friend wanting me and an old friend, John, who I thought was very gravely ill to get together. I suspect they want our input on some historical matters because between us we know where all the bodies are buried..... Very pleased because I thought I had lost John for ever!
The carpet fitter this morning......

The fact that Liam, my carpet fitter went to school with daughter Janet. He was telling tales about her.....
See
THIS for a report on a young lady called Nicola Thorp who was sent home on her first day at the offices of Price Waterhouse Cooper for refusing to wear high heels or wear make up for her job as a receptionist. Well done that woman! She pointed out that her male colleagues had to do neither.
Which raises another matter that has been puzzling me. Have any of you seen the advertisement for MoneySupermarket that features two strange men. One very fat and the other improbably dressed in hot pants and high heels who spends a lot of time shaking his improbable bottom at the fat man. Can anyone tell me how this is supposed to sell the services of the web site. Am I missing something here?

A phone call from BG, they have a fitter in Barlick tomorrow and want to do my annual boiler service, only problem it's between noon and 6PM so unless he gets here early I shall lose my afternoon sleep. I want to get back in the shed but this and shopping could interfere with my plans. Never mind, nobody is breathing down my neck and I'm enjoying re-reading Deighton!

He was away before 14:00 and the boiler passed inspection..... Hope yours was the same.
What struck me yesterday was that it was one of those days when a multitude of small tasks needed doing and it was well after 09:00 when I got the chance to sit down and draw breath with the gas man still to come. I ditched the shed and had an hour of Deighton instead. Today is looking a bit more sensible, the aim is to get in the shed. Only one appointment on my social calendar, the lifting of the old carpets on Tuesday. That was one of the extra jobs, I covered them with plastic in case it rains before they come....

Keep an eye and ear out for a Spitfire in the sky today. It's Haworth's 1940's weekend and you may catch it in transit, its scheduled around 10.45 for its visit to Haworth today so 15 minutes either side if it passes. We will be visiting with two of the grandchildren but will probably miss the show this year.

But you were lucky!
Spanish Grand Prix was brilliant. I reckon Rosberg was to blame for the first lap disaster but every cloud has a silver lining, it opened the door for Young Max to have the drive of his life! He had a good day in the office.....

Demolition work underway at the back of the buildings which included the former Drill Hall on Crownest Road.
There was quite a lot of noise this afternoon from such work, not sure if it was from here or similar work underway at Bankfield.

Not very substantial buildings David so it won't go on for long....
How cold the house felt this morning as the weather cools down a bit and no heat. I treated myself to 30 minutes of CH....
That poor bloke who left the dummy pipe bomb in the toilets .... Anyone can make a mistaker and the consequences were huge.

Incompetence by the security firm aside, it does beg the question that if the "device" was planted earlier in the week why was it not found by the grounds own security security team? Either routinely or on the pre match sweep, It was only behind a toilet door?

I agree Ian. Sounds like a bit of a shake-up all round is indicated! It's not as though security staff are motivated by high wages.....
Seeing as it was a bit cooler yesterday I decided heavier shirt and trousers was the way to go. Just for a change I went for denim and realised I was dressed in historic clothing. When I was going to Northfield MN regularly I always travelled light and stocked up on clothes at my mate's drapers shop, Bob Jacobsen. He knew I was into clothes that were a bit different and one year he sold me these Carrhart Lumberjack's jeans. They are very heavy denim and have double thickness on the thighs and knees, they even have a gap in the stitching at the bottom to let the chips fall out when you wear a hole in the outer layer. They are very heavy, riveted and if you look carefully, they have buttons for your braces. The shirt is an Osh Kosh working shirt made just as they stopped making working clothes and overalls and went over to making nothing but kiddy's clothing. So today I am a walking advert for Jacobsen's store and historic working clothes!
