We wish Wendy, we have mastered Swing Jive which includes some Lindy moves but would like to be a lot more proficient in the latter. It's a very versatile dance, an 8 count with triple step, you can do it to fast or slow tempo's.

If you want to go to extremes...

If you google Lindy Hop world finals you will find some fantastic couples, addictive to watch as well.

Don't worry lads.... I have quite enough on my plate!
Thanks Wendy....
The way my edges lined up as I sculpted the clevis yokes on my con rods.... Bit esoteric I know but it's automatic confirmation that you are working accurately. Think of a perfect line of stitches or an even row of plants..... Gives you a buzz when you look at it.

Speaking of Barnoldswick Talk, I came across this today, check out the toolbox!

Piece of Cake

We have some very talented people in the town.

I have had a few coherent conversations in some of the threads. Only like lots of other groups and it has it's uses, it's OK as long as you don't rise to the idiots.

That cake is clever stuff..... Not my cup of tea but I know talent when I see it!
Doc's reaction to the then Barlick site was to start OneGuy.....
How nice it was to light the stove and do a bit of cooking on it. I have too much grub needing eating now but no cakes!

If you are still in the market for a lectric slow cooker, Charlie's on the town square has a better price than Redmans for the same sized cooker. From the cuts of two shear you cook I assume you will want the larger model?

If I get one it will be the larger size. Thanks for the heads up. Is 'Charlie's' the sweet shop and tobacconist's?
How nasty election campaigns are getting both here and in the US. Is it my imagination or is 'nice' on the decline? Or is it just that 'nasty' makes better headlines.....
The Hogg shirt I ordered arrived yesterday and is lovely quality, I shall order another.....

Yes, Stanley, Charlies swee shop, used to be Noblett's when I was a lad and it sold mainly tobacco and sweets. I saw the cooker on the shelf behind the counter.

This Sunday Times article shows why we only support small and/or local charities...
`Charities’ costs eat up 78% of donations' LINK

Thanks Ian....
Tiz, that problem is an old one. I first became aware of it when I started dealing with charities (and setting them up) when I was doing Ellenroad. I soon realised that there were some people doing very nicely out of running charities. There was no real check on what percentage went on admin or what those payments went on. There were some very healthy expense accounts and salaries that came under the heading of 'fund-raising expenses'.
At one time the football pools were forced to insert in their adverts a figure for how much of the total prize fund went on expenses. Why not do the same for charities? It worked for the pools.

Ex-Canary Wharf types see a job as charity CEO as a nice little earner - it doesn't matter to them where the money goes, it's the amount coming in and the charity's size and image that counts so they can justify a big salary and perks.

The way the passage of the year creeps up on you. We are into June tomorrow and the days start to shorten in three weeks. Will we see any really hot weather? I like living on the edge so far North and the definite seasons but sometimes feel cheated a bit in 'Summer'.
How nice it is to see the engines coming together quietly.... Slowly and carefully works in the end if you have enough patience. I watch things like these being valued on antiques shows and always wonder if people have any concept of the number of hours of work that goes into them.

A poem by David Edwards who lives in the Philippines and wrote it "because he was bored" - he sent it to me today:

Goodbye to my England, So long my old friend
Your days are numbered, being brought to an end
To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh that's fine
But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.

The French and the Germans may call themselves such
So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch
You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane
But don't say you're English ever again.

At Broadcasting House the word is taboo
In Brussels it's scrapped, in Parliament too
Even schools are affected, staff do as they're told
They must not teach children about England of old.

Writers like Shakespeare, Milton and Shaw
The pupils don't learn about them anymore
How about Agincourt, Hastings, Arnhem or Mons?
When England lost hosts of her very brave sons.

We're not Europeans, how can we be?
Europe is miles away, over the sea.
We're English from England, let's all be proud
Stand up and be counted - Shout it out loud.

Let's tell our Government and Brussels too
We're proud of our heritage and the Red, White and Blue
Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack
Let the world know - WE WANT OUR ENGLAND BACK!

I would suspect most charities eat up the bulk of their 'takings' in self maintenance. Most not through greed or fatcats making a fast buck, thats just the way it is. With the best will in the world, it costs money to maintain a charity, and getting donations can be hard going. Killing off charities because only 22% is going to the good cause is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. It sells newspapers........

Said the treasurer of charity number 1076156. ;)

China, funny how the most rabid Englanders are often the ones who have migrated..... When I was asked the question about patriotism in 2000 as part of the Millennium Project I said I was a Barlicker....
Pluggy, quite true and I agree but many are not as clean as you'd think. No harm in urging them to be less complacent about efficiency.
The opening of the Gotthard Base tunnel (LINK) the deepest and longest tunnel in the world. The twin tunnels will enable maximum weight freight trains to travel at 150kph and is designed to reduce road freight traffic across the Alps. An impressive achievement!

My attention was caught today by actually winning a bargain on eBay. A brand new stainless steel bird guard chimney cowl for £20, including postage. All I need now is a roof ladder to get up to the stack and fit it. I have a double extension ladder to get up to roof level but Paulette won't let me scramble up the slates, she reckons I'm not as young as I used to be. Does anyone in Barlick have a roof ladder I can borrow for an hour please?

Sensible woman! Horses for courses Kev. Roofers are small and agile. Ring 812707 for my mates at GM Builders, they are good and don't charge an arm and a leg..... Get them to inspect the roof and clean the gutters at the same time?
How long a pan of pease pudding lasts..... I made a bit too much but managed to kill it yesterday!

I bought a couple of top rate cowls plus fitting from a local chimney sweep man in Earby. A lot more expensive than the ones 'won' by Big Kev but not everyone wants to stand on the top of a 30 ft high chimney screwing these things on. A first class job and good value for money in my eyes. And that comes from someone who can be classed as 'careful' with his brass.
