That sounds feasible but I never came across anything like that. Never needed it.

Padded panties to reduce saddle sores.

Is it worn by the rider or does it fit on the bike somewhere?

Nothing to do with the saddle. Kev is ahead at the moment by narrowing it down to bike or rider - it's worn by the rider. Keep on airing your ideas - this is fun!

Well, this rider doesn't have one!

Does it attach to the front handle bars to carry necessities.
Damn, no ofcourse not, it is carried by the rider.
This is a good one.

Hand guards? The left and right outer bits fasten around your wrist and the bottom pointed bit fits over the back of your hand and protects your fingers whilst they are gripping the handlebar. A couple of fingers go through the strap which is shown but this is really the inside of the guard. Just guessing.

No, you're all banging your head against a brick wall with this one, haha! :laugh5:

Only thing I can think of which is cycling related would be some kind of helmet liner, balaclava type winter warmer etc. Fits with clue above also.

Swanky light holder...

Sorry, David, Ian's got it.

That's close enough, Ian, well done! If you look back at my posts above you'll see that I used the word `head' a number of times but, perhaps not surprisingly, it didn't help. It doesn't look much like headgear in that photo. It's a Hovding head airbag for cyclists and the photo from their web site shows how it looks when activated. Hovding

Helmet replacement then.

I'll have to knock a cyclist off his bike just to see if his head inflates!

Certainly a mystery object to us.

I shall not be rushing out to buy one.....

A good mystery object!

Would be interested to see if these are effective, and what the downsides are. An acquaintance of mine's son came off his bike and banged his head on a lamp-post. Not a very violent collision, but the injuries to his brain were life-changing. This was before wearing cycling helmets was common practice, so maybe he'd have been protected by something simpler than this.

I'll admit to being a bit desperate for an object. Try this one....

It appears to be a model engine...another creation from Stanley's shed?

I should have mentioned that I found the Hovding airbag by reading an article in the newspaper and then looking it up on the web. It was a bit wicked of me to choose that particular photo rather than a more informative one. But I guessed it would spark more interest!

A warp sizing machine with engine?

Sorry, having trouble with the Internet and didn't mean to post that. I'm having rethink.

Looks like textile machinery, could be a warp-sizing machine minus all the drying cylinders, shedding bars and so on, but could also be other things. I'll be back when I re-establish my fast connection.

Model pit winding gear ? Although that doesn't ring true with Stanley's background with Mill engines....

I was thinking of a mill hoist as it appears to have a reversing handle but it looks too big for that, but it could be a mine hoist engine for pulling the trucks up a slope.

Pluggy was near enough but China ended up getting it exactly right. It's the Fieldhouse Winding Engine used near Huddersfield (LINK) and yes it's a bit outside my usual field which is why I want to do it. I have ordered the castings..... That's a change from using scrap!

Pluggy deserves all the credit for getting that one, I was thinking of textile machines before he mentioned pits and he made me have re-think and a lucky guess.
