If it was an injection moulded piece i see a fault in design, there should have been larger radii in the corners of the square hole

In theory I'm sure you're right Bodge. It was injection moulded and to my mind very inadequate both in material and mass. However, it has served its purpose for well over twenty years and I suppose that's acceptable. To my mind it is a miracle it lasted so long!

The replacement is heavier and made of cast bronze. I suspect it will see the rest of the cistern (and perhaps me....) out! Another bonus is that it is a much smoother action now with less lost motion. On reflection it has been giving notice for a while because I noted recently that it was almost as though the water level in the cistern was low, it wasn't always acting on the first press of the lever. No problems now, a perfect flush!
The fact that I have to have a writing session to cover me with the paper until I get back from teaching in July. I like writing for the paper but have to admit it can sometimes be a bit of a monkey on my back! I need six articles on the stockpile.....
Of late the flood of sometimes prurient interest in allegations of child sex abuse has slackened a bit but we learn this morning (LINK) that another public figure, the late Clement Freud, had a private life completely at odds with his public persona. There will be further news shortly as the Kincora Children's home is investigated yet again, this time to look into allegations that figures from the world of politics, the army and intelligence services are involved. Worth remembering that the strange gaps in some of the orders of knighthood like the Garter which are unfilled is down to the fear of giving honours to people who later turn out to be tainted. It is being kept quiet but there is still a pot boiling out there.

I read an item about the 95-year-old Prince Philip visiting a science centre recently. He asked when their new invention would be available and they said 2018. He replied "So, not in my time then" and turned away...but then turned back and said "Or maybe not". It looks like he intends being around for a while yet!

I still have my Corgi James Bond Aston Martin DB5, I have lost the man that I suppose was ejected one too many times. The headlight machine guns and ramming bumpers at the front and bullet proof shield at the back are still functional. Strangely enough this iconic marque was sold as a set with Simon Templars bog standard white Volvo P1800, it does have his logon the bonnet though which is not as cool as Jame's "toy's".

When I left Ellenroad John Pierce, the CEO of Rochdale, gave me a Corgi model of an Ellen Smith Leyland Tiger coach. I know they cost over £30 then so I have kept it in its original packing and it is pristine. My kids might get a little bonus!
No day is wasted when 3 articles have been written! I am aiming for another three today to get the monkey off my back!

I knocked off three more articles yesterday.... Two more are on the boil. Edward Lee, the editor of the BET mailed me yesterday to say I must be psychic, one of his 'to do' tasks was to mail me to ask me to build a stock pile to tide him over his holidays.....
What is on my mind this morning is the Jo Cox murder. Too early to comment, we don't know enough but there are disturbing reports of a possible political element. It was only the other day that I was speculating about a 'killer blow' as the referendum vote gets closer......

Just got my copy of ' The Spectator' through the letter box. They have a brief summary of the week as a feature, and I see that the former 'homelessness czar' (Czarina?) is now
Dame Louise Casey

Strange that I have seen no other reference to this in the media, since the list was published.

Not strange if you dig into the statistics for homelessness and rough sleepers David. Both on a steep upward curve. Doesn't square well with the official line on housing policy and the Economic Miracle.....
A total power outage lasting about a minute at 03:22 this morning. Possibly a badly executed switch in the Grid?
Later after our walk.... The Millennium clock in the Town Square stopped at 03:22 and hasn't restarted so the outage must have been Barlick wide.

Congratulations to Major Tim Peake, safely back on earth after a perfect touchdown (Soyuz style) in Kazakhstan.

Live pictures just re-established and they're all out of the craft and looking well.

I'm watching that also Kev. 70 million for the ride, bargain for the number of kids in the UK who have been captivated by Tim's exploits. Lots of hook ups with schools via amateur radio links and live experiments into the classroom. Next generation of engineers and astronauts already sparked and engaged, magic!

There may be a historical reason for why you escaped the cut David. Somewhere at the back of my mind is a report that when Rover moved into Bankfield in 1940 a new HT link was put in to Keighley to improve leccy supply to the site. I have an idea that the line was mounted on standards made from standard RSJs and and can remember seeing them. You may be benefiting from that.
What grabbed and totally pissed me off yesterday was Amazon automatically enrolling me on Prime for a month's 'free trial' when I didn't want it. It took me ten minutes to find the button that said not to continue and start paying £7.28 per month at the end of the month. I shall be watching them like a hawk!!!! A nasty sneaky cunning wheeze!

It's unfair to say Amazon automatically enrolled you on Prime for a month's 'free trial'. They don't do that. What they are guilty of is having their `Order' pages show the Prime box already ticked - you have to uncheck them if you don't want Prime. I agree it's a Cunning Wheeze but so are a lot of other things. Buyer beware!

Whatever it was Tiz, I hate it!
Having said that the new Cannon Powershot camera arrived and is a compact miracle. The Powershot A1400 I got about a year ago is still functioning but due to using it in the shed I think some grinding dust or similar has got into it and it makes funny noises when you switch it on and the lens pops out. Sod's Law says it would pack up during my week at Keele so I decided to bite the bullet. It is a slimmer, improved version of the old one and the resolution is over 20mp. I look back at my first point and shoot about 20 years ago and marvel at how they have progressed. Funny thing though is that even though it is 'only' 10mp, my old Nikon D200 gives what I think is a better quality image overall. Perhaps lens quality still counts. Of course that will all change soon with the new lens technologies that are emerging, just a thin plastic film......

That funny noise when the lens pops out is supposed to happen if there is grit in the lens, Stanley! Read your manual...

I spoke with Thomo a couple of weeks ago. He has been poorly but is on the mend and has recently moved house. Still a bit up tipped I would assume.

The funny thing was that having mastered 'the gallery' says with tongue in cheek, I was thinking of all the work put in by Thomo and PanBiker on the Barlick War Memorial. I have quite a number of pictures of the various memorials throughout Pendle and it might be fitting to have a separate gallery section for them. Any thoughts?

I can sort that Plaques. I have created a new album called "Memorials" in the Historical category. If you upload into there could you please add relative titles to each of the images. Internet bots and spiders will then reference them in the search engines and they will be easier to find.

Always happy to accept suggestions for extra categories.

The great stink over Barlick!

Smelling strong on returning from an evening meeting in Colne. More whiff of the slaughterhouse than the usual muckspreading.
