Never noticed it David.
I forgot to mention a short power outage just after 18:00 on Sunday.
Mail from Amazon confirming the cancellation of my inadvertent Prime membership....
Kev, I've given it a light blow out and clean.... slight improvement. Best left alone I think, I have two cameras in reserve....

I spoke with Thomo a couple of weeks ago. He has been poorly but is on the mend and has recently moved house. Still a bit up tipped I would assume.
Thanks Ian. Please pass on our regards for a full and speedy recovery. I don't envy him moving home, I'll be happy if I never have to move again.

We are still moving slowly up the NSW coast enjoying the warm weather. Today it didn't seem to matter what beach we stopped at, there were whales moving up the coast. Thank goodness we packed the binoculars for a good look.

And give him my regards too, please. I hope he's in a quieter location now, away from the traffic that had been stressing him so much.

Indeed Tiz, Thomo is well away from the main road now, not on a through road at all, it will be much quieter.

There is the National register of War Memorials but it would do no harm to have all our local ones in a topic on here. The National one is an attempt to create a record with all relative information for each individual memorial recorded. It includes the plaques and memorials established in clubs and institutes and the like, many of which have already been lost.

Liz, lucky you! I love watching whales and always have a compact pair of Olympus 12X25 bins with me when I'm going anywhere interesting. You're post reminded me to slip them in my old fishing bag ready for Keele.

Image

You've reminded me of the old bag, it has a bit of history! Round about 1975 when I was getting interested in snapping pics I wanted a camera bag. In those days there was a sports shop on Post Office Corner and I saw a fishing bag in the window that was just the ticket. I went in and looked at it, lovely thing, waterproof canvas, well made and a waterproof liner. It was a Farlow, made in London. The shopkeeper apologised for the fact it was so expensive, £12, but I liked the quality, bought it and have used it ever since. Farlows still make the same bag and it's £160 now.....
You might notice it looks a bit battered these days. Not surprising really, it's been round the world three times and many other long trips. The rough stitching is my repair after Joe, the maverick lurcher, decided to eat it one day (he ate my binoculars the same day....). Structurally it's as sound today as it was when I bought it over 40 years ago. I love things like that, goes well with my boots!

I missed this a couple of days ago. I was doing a test upload to see if there was a problem because certain members were having problems.

Its our cat, officially called 'Smudge' but because of its habit of digging its claws in your leg when it thinks you're ignoring it, I christened it 'Evil furball of death', of course, because we only have one cat, it usually gets 'cat' or 'the cat'. ;)

I was house-sitter for a cat like that in Northfield.... 'Toff', for it was he, had a mind of his own.....

Image

High risk activity! Martha and Roger trimming Toff's claws....His favourite trick was to lurk high up and pounce on the back of your neck as you passed with claws fully extended. Martha's cleaner was not amused by this!
But, when he died the college put a statue of him in the library and they still decorate it on his birthday.

We went to Glusburn CP School today where our daughter Carla teaches, it was their Summer Fair. During the proceedings the headteacher encouraged everyone to assemble in the main hall for a special presentation.

He introduced every one to Walter who is a volunteer teaching assistant at the school. Walter is a D Day veteran who the headteacher and another member of staff accompanied to Normandy for his first visit back since 1944. Since returning they applied to the French Government for Walters D Day Veterans award which was duly presented today.

Walter is now the recipient of the "Chevalier de l' Ordre National de la Legion d'Honneur", (Knight to the Legion of Honor).

It was our honor and privilege to be present for this award.

Colne town council are planning a WW1 events day for Saturday July 2nd. All kinds of small events and displays in and around the town centre starting at 10-45 with a parade by the British Legion to the war memorial. It looks like people have put a lot of effort into it to make it worth a visit. The events continue until about 4 in the afternoon. WW1 Events.

The realisation I had made a mistake in the shed.... not terminal, in fact the solution to the problem could be tidier than the original concept. I blame the distraction of the referendum vote!!

Free wifi at our current caravan park so I can catch up on this site. Did something wrong that used 35% of my phone download. I've had to preserve what I have left.

On the old site there was a thread about 'The best chippy in Barlick'. Leaving aside the smarties who nominated a carpenter - I think Kelbrook Chippy was among the nominations.

Is this it?Chippy for sale

Looks cheap to me, and a good investment. Just an auction estimate though.

Used to go for a penny slosh - chips & mushy peas. We also had fish & chips most Saturday suppers, Dad would go to the Craven Heifer, have half a pint and buy a Pink (evening sports paper) and bring the supper home. He always whistled when walking so Mum would tell me to go to the door and when I heard him whistling it was time to brew the tea. Happy memories!

The original property at the heart of the Kelbrook chippy was a former air raid shelter; the chip shop and house were both built around it. Wasn't it Barry Slater who built the business up?

In the late 1950s Kelbrook Chippy was run by an irascible old bloke called Albert and his wife. Their fish and chips was superb. In those days I used to have 3 pints of black and tan in the Heifer and then pop across the road for fish chips and peas twice then back into the pub. Work like a horse and eat like one! Weight never changed, 168lbs. Later in the evening I often had stew and hard as well from Gladys Talbot as a filler. Those were definitely the days!
I retrieved the situation in the workshop.....
