A very cold pasta salad is chilling in the fridge.
I've made chicken torpedoes to have with it ( long, thin strips of chicken breast which I have crumbed and will fry, then throw through the salad). Served with a cold glass of Beer.
Too warm here today to eat much.

Yup, just cleaned the gravy and fat out of the roasting tin, it's in the fridge and when the fat sets I can lift it off. Loaf will be cooked in an hour.... All is well!

Roast chicken plenty of cabbage and carrots and a few roasted potatoes. Roast white meat and plenty of veg is one of the least calorie meals its the roasted potatoes but we dry roast them sometimes not as good but a great substitute. Eileen

Moh, you are a shining example of a woman who believes in traditional cooking! You make my moth water at times, now then, Liver and Onions....
I had the last of the rib in a butty at dinnertime and for tea had a butty made with tomatoes grilled in olive oil.

Last of the tomato spread with a heggy on top in a butty for dinner and a nice piece of rump steak casseroled with onions (Moh set me off on this with her liver and onions...) and eaten in a butty at teatime. Several butties left in this one yet so I've put another loaf in.

We do enjoy tradional meals (especially at this time of year - need good warm meals to keep the body warm)) but I also enjoy experimenting some times.
Plaice, new potatoes and parsley sauce tonight.

Eileen, I suppose I am but I enjoy my food and the habit of feeding as cheaply as possible suits me, it's a form of control I suppose and also a hangover from the war when we were satisfied with very little. Yesterday I had the last of the beef casserole with rice at dinnertime and at teatime I had a lovely pressed beef butty with my own tomato relish. When Doc had done the light in the kitchen I rewarded him with a little spoonful of it and it was good to see his face! It took him a moment to christen it but he thought it was so good he asked me how I made it and he's going to make his own version. If you want to try it here's how to make it.

Melt some butter in a small grill pan with a spoonful of mint sauce on it. Slice three large tomatoes and lay them face up in the pan. Sprinkle of molasses sugar, good sea salt, plenty of pepper and then drizzle with Worcestershire sauce. Grill till the edges are turning black, basting it once then turn the tomatoes over and grill the other side. Let it cool under the grill so it thickens and then have a taste! I promise your tadte buds will do a little jig!

Willing to give that recipe a go Stanley. Not keen on Mint Sauce, but will follow it faithfully.
What do you do with it when cool...blitz it, squash it with a fork and mash it...or leave it chunky?
And how long would it keep ( a question I dread to ask, because I am sure you will tell me you keep it for years!)

Treated myself to a copy of " Mrs Beetons Book Of Household Management" the other day. A reprint of course, though I have had the pleasure of examining a very old copy of the same. No doubt she will have a recipe for Mint Sauce, and I have Mint growing in the garden.
