I've made it private and hidden so it's invite only to join. If there is anyone else who wants access just let me know. Someone called Peter Robinson asked to join this aft, I refused as I didn't know who it was but if he is on here in disguise then I apologise!

I'm tempted to join Facebook in hopes of being invited. I'll let you know if I do. At the moment the prospect looks quite attractive!
I'll admit I am struggling with the delay on the site.....

Please do Stanley!
Everything is fine now at 7.00am, no problem with speed.

Funny that you have a quick site, I still have the dreadful lag. Am I alone?
As soon as I posted that I got my speed again! Very strange. I shall go back to bed...... :biggrin2:

Couldn’t get on at all yesterday evening, this morning is working fine. Going to go on the Facebook page, good idea Wendy.

Wendy, I haven’t got anything from you on Facebook, and can’t find the page. Have you sent the invite to the old page? The new one has me grooming a laid out German shepherd.
Wendy, I’ve sent you a friend request from Facebook.

Sorted now, I was still friends with the old Gloria!

It's working fine for me, could potentially have been the Ionos upgrade impacting Stanley. I've not been in and had a look to see if it's been done.

I have not had any notification from IONOS and they did say they would give notice before the migration. The server will have to be shut down completely to move it and they said it could take up to an hour to complete the migration. I think we will notice when it happens.

Just had a look and there are no messages on the IONOS site. CPU is currently ticking over at 20% in the virtual world :extrawink:

The site appears to be really quick this morning and it was only the slowdown over the previous couple of days which sent me running to the new facebook group. My apologies to Wendy et al for the 'imposter trying to infiltrate the group' scare...! :biggrin2:

Something definitely was amiss last night. My hours are not as extreme as Stanley's but I start and finish late. The connection dropped just after midnight and "Down for everyone or just me" confirmed it was everyone. I assumed it was for maintenance and gave up.
All is well now.

What can I say, these server logs don't support your experience. They cover the period in question 19th to 20th. First is the server CPU and the second is RAM usage. No drop outs recorded, a fairly constant state on both.

The logs are telling lies as far as I am concerned, I have had two miserable mornings. In contrast all seems normal this morning. Long may it continue and thanks for your efforts Ian! :biggrin2:

I am in the unenviable position of having to work with what I have got when the site has problems. I go with the majority experience and the available evidence that is available through tests, logs or remedial actions. It's common practice in fault finding and is how I was taught when studying for my qualifications. You have to be as logical as possible and work with the clues you have got.

The logs presented record site statistics continuously and reflect the last 24 hours of site performance at any time.

It is not logical to accept the log when it says the site is overloaded and then on the other hand don't accept it when it says it is not! You are incorrect in your assumption that the logs are wrong. It simply has to be something at your end when 80% of the other users no longer had a problem.

Clear browser cache, try a different browser. It can be as simple as that.

I appreciate what you do to remedy things, and what you say about logical fault finding, but there was definitely a problem just after midnight yesterday Sat 20/4/24.

I couldn't get into the site, even after clearing my cache etc, which I do every night, and using a different browser Firefox then Duckduckgo. The totally independent "Down for me" site confirmed the site was down for everyone and not just me.

I still think Helga should have more of a firewall role to play in keeping people out who have no business being with us, but I know nothing of the detail of the matter, and I'm grateful that we get such a good service for 99.999% of the time.

Thanks again.

Just a thought, I don't have access to my desktop machine to look, is there a proxy server between the server the site is hosted on and the big wild world? If there is, and Ionos were carrying out maintenance on that, it may be what Tripps and Stanley were impacted by while the rest of us daylight dwellers tucked up in bed.
Not saying it was that but...

Could be Kev as if you do a command line traceroute it does not fully resolve to the IP address of the VPS.

It comes back to what I have said multiple times though, expect anything during what are regarded as normal downtime hours, Midnight to 6am probably universally scheduled for maintenance on infrastructure and server issues.

We can't see what may go wrong along the routing path, but to say the Logs are incorrect is simply wrong.

Aye, a tracert will only go as far as security protocols allow.
