Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
I agree that it probably wont make a difference although it's generally good advice to use the latest tech if you have it rather than keep it in drawer and ignore it. If you do swap it you should send your old one back. They provided freepost return labels when I upgraded mine.

It would give you landline access again with the benefit of free support calls to TalkTalk.

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
Also your new router will support the landline on the VOIP port. I only use ours for incoming calls though after the eventual successful cancelling of the £16 per month free UK calls. That took two years to sort though! 500 free calls on my £5 mobile deal is a much better option.

"Free support calls to Talktalk"
Any sort of support call with TalkTalk would be welcome. I still haven't heard anything since Friday apart from the agent telling me that i was 'not due' for any contact until the 18th..... So perhaps it will be all change tomorrow?

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
In case anyone is wondering. Still closed out of TalkTalk email. I check every morning first thing.
And not a dicky bird from TalkTalk. The agent said the 18th.... we'll see today.
Understandably I have been thinking about it and it seems to me that all that is wrong is that the TalkTalk programme isn't authorising any log-ins at all from me whether it's the email programme itself, my TalkTalk account or password change. In other words all TalkTalk functions.......
A simple minded bugger like me would think that was relatively easy to change.

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
Seven days exactly since my email died while connected. Not a dicky bird even though they told me I was due for a response today. Will being a nuisance speed things up? I doubt it..... I am frustrated with them and miserable without my communications.

Be a nuisance, keep on at them, tell them they're not providing the service you're paying for.

That's very helpful David. I shall get a grip.....
Kev, I did as you suggested and I think I have achieved an advance. The lady says she is escalating the complaint and has re-confirmed the time and method of communication. I shall give it a rest for today....

You get more for your money from Fastmail and it's served me well for about 20 years!

I fully agree - but my lad tells me they don't do the free version any more. I've been with them more than twenty years and (quite unusually for me

You have probably forgotten - but it was you that recommended Proton Mail a few years ago. I have them for a spare and so does my young lad. they are free for up to 1GB storage. Problem free for both of us.

Bully for all of you!
Problem is I don't understand email and computers and daren't do anything in case I loose internet connection...... So I need help and so far TalkTalk haven't given me any......
That's why I am miserable and feeling downtrodden. Roll on 12 Noon today! I might start to get some sense.

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
I am losing the will to live. I have been on the phone with Talk Talk for an hour and have been passed from department to department, 5 different people in all. The last one said she was connecting me to the technical team again as I shouldn't have been transferred. During that process the call was terminated and I have had a call to say they will contact me again. I have also had a text message to say they will contact me between 12:00 and 14:00 on the 23rd. In other words the same again.

No miracle overnight, I feel defeated and need help! Sorry to be a burden......
I loaded an email programme on my phone yesterday after being cut off. Exactly the same result when trying to open my mail, failure to authenticate.

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
Regardless of what email app you're using you won't have access to your TalkTalk mail until they resolve the password issue. All I can suggest is to open a new chat session and escalate your complaint, they're not providing the service you're paying for. You shouldn't have to be waiting for them to call you back.

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
No point vexing Stanley, New chat stream, quote your existing references and then when you are past the AI screening tell them you will terminate the account if they don't fix the problem. Seems to me what should be a relatively minor problem with your account. I think you should also qualify for a good will compensation rebate for the loss of service.
Having said contemplating dumping them, be mindful that you would lose your long standing email address with a change of ISP. Plenty of alternatives out there at similar costs and it It may well still be a case of the devil you know.

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
Thanks for taking the trouble Ian. Very much my thinking, to threaten termination but as you say, I don't want the faff of changing the address.
As you so rightly say, better the devil I know if I can get this sorted.... I'll keep everyone posted.

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
Another possible resolution would be to ask them to text a password reset link to your phone. No guarantee it'll work but it may be a quicker option.

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
I hesitate to get more involved. but I don't like SCG being so distressed about it all.
Kevs suggestion seems a good one.
I've just dug deeply into my into Fastmail settings and find that I have an Account Recovery email address, and a recovery phone number registered. In addition I have a 12 digit random code number which they have told me to write down safely, and which can also be used to recover the account. I was unaware of most of that - so some good has emerged.
I'd be surprised if Talk Talk don't have something similar buried away - though why it has not been suggested already I can't guess.
Also - and don't be offended by this - is it just possible that the wrong password is being used? I can envisage that scenario for myself.
Good luck and stay strong . . .
