All sensible suggestions and thanks for taking the trouble.
I shall ask about password reset today Kev.
The suggestion of wrong password is not silly David but I don't see how it can be because it is not working for anything in TalkTalk even when I enter it manually for things like accessing my account.
You are right David, I am distressed. It's 11 days now and 9 days since I started talking to them with that marathon of 6 hours on the chatline. It is ridiculous and shameful.
Overlying everything is that all the agents are Asian and talk too fast, I have great difficulty understanding them......

Tripps is correct about TalkTalk having a process in place. You should be able to request a reset here
https://service.talktalk.co.uk/resetpas ... ney=forgot
and choose a mobile number to send the 'code' to.
You should then be able to choose a new password. Make sure it meets the requirements, usually more than 8 letters and containing upper and lower case, a number and a special character (?!&)
Write it down on a piece of paper, without identifying what it's for, and keep it safe. Online hackers can't hack a piece of paper

My problem with that is which passwords to I change. I've had a look and identified the one for the Pop3 server but what is the password for Orange for? Do I need to do anything about that? And what about the other password for talk talk, there are two of them.
This is where I fail dealing with this problem, it frightens me to death!
There are 4 passwords, two for TalkTalk and two for Orange.

I think I've missed something important, the Talk Talk address should tell me what passwords to alter. Is that correct?

The Orange passwords are historical and can be ignored, to make things easier change both of the TalkTalk passwords so they match. You won't have to worry about which one you've changed then

I tried to open the link you gave me. It took me to my account and that refused me access as my password is wrong so I entered via a login code sent to my mobile. I navigated to where it said change password and that told me I had to login via my mail account and guess what it refused to accept my password so I gave up, I was just going round in circles! I shall go for a walk to get some paracetamol and breathe deeply......

Make sure you tell TalkTalk this. There is obviously something wrong with their system if it's asking you to input your password in response to a code.

We're all entitled to a dadnap.
Indulge me here, you are using the forgotten password link from your email login screen?

I can't complete the process to see what it's doing as I don't have a TalkTalk email address (despite being a customer).

but what is the password for Orange for?
"
Orange UK merged with Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile UK to form a joint venture, EE in 2010. EE continued to operate the Orange brand until February 2015, when new connections and upgrades on Orange tariffs were withdrawn. Existing Orange customers could continue on their plans until March 2019."

I think it's time for "full stop - new line". Start again and it will weed your contact list, and be quicker than the current course of action.

I'm not sure what you're asking me Kev. Yes, the log in password I use to try to get into my account is the same one as opens (or should open) Both my Talktalk accounts. It has been working with no problems since 2017.
I have reviewed all my text messages from TalkTalk and the last one from the technical team after I was cut off on the 20th says that they will be calling me between 12:00 and 14:00 on the 23, tomorrow. That worked on the 20th so I shall stop worrying and wait until then tomorrow when I shall remember all you have said!
David, it's all very well saying 'have a fresh start and weed your contacts' You have no idea of how many contacts I have and there is no way I want that job so no thank you......

As you mentioned the 'code' you received on your mobile I'm presuming you clicked on the 'forgot my password' link (I understand you haven't forgotten it but it no longer works). I am working in supposition here but...
Following the forgotten password link on your PC (and choosing a code to be sent to your mobile).
You should, on your PC, be presented with a screen to input the code.
The next screen, on your PC, should give you the option to input a new password, you usually have to do this twice (good idea to have one written down ready to use).
Once a new password has been input you should see a screen, on your PC, showing the password has been changed.
You should now be able to log into webmail with the new password.
Apologies if you've already done all this.

To be quite honest Kev I've lost track of where I got to before the app once more didn't recognise my password when it asked for it before the next stage.

I hope I am not going to confuse matters further but in my experience with Talk Talk. Regardless of how many passwords and email addresses you have set up on your account and what they are (you can have 5), You have a main email and password that you used to set up the account. This is the main one that you need access to. If you can regain access to that one you can manage all the other accounts.
Your currently registered email on here is an @talktalk.net password but I assume that is not the original one that you set the account up with. I seem to remember you had a tiscali address before your current one.
For example I have a tiscali address that I used when Talk Talk took over from tiscali. My own email and Sally's are also tiscali addresses, but since then I have set up two others which are a mixture of original tiscali address and new ones that are talktalk.net. In all cases the original tiscali address is the one that I have to use for anything account related including managing the email addresses.
If that is the same for you Stanley and you can get access to that original address you will be sorted.
Forget anything pre tiscali such as any Orange email addresses that you may have had. Tiscali took over Orange a long time ago.

I will wait for Stanley's view on that one. He can always ignore it. I think my post is relatively straightforward and should not require further input from the Samaritans. Uncalled for in my view even though it does have a smiley.

Fair comment - I did wonder about posting it. File under 'black Lancashire humour' and hope it is taken in that context.

I have an appointment at Barlick Medical Centre on Tuesday, should be all done by 09:30 ish. I can bob in and have a look if TalkTalk haven't sorted it by then.

You would be welcome Kev. Be aware that Colin's cold has retreated enough for him to get out and he is coming later this morning to be here when talk talk call so a Tuesday visit will be about right. 12 days outage at noon today.......

YIPPEE! Colin has restored my connection to TalkTalk. Don't ask me what he did but I now have my passwords reset to a secure one as Kev suggested and I can send and receive emails.
That is an immense load lifted off me. Now all I have to do is deal with 50 emails.....
