It's the bit that the window handle sat in.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Sorry, you haven't got it. It's upside down actually. San you remember the old fashioned hinges on old car doors, the ones that stick out on the outside of the door? This is the bronze bearing that sits in the lower half of the hinge attached to the car and the domed top carried the weight of the door on its hinge. There was of course a spring loaded bolt with a tab washer through the whole assembly. They were good because they were easily replaced if the door was drooping a bit.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Woodman spare that tree. (Phil Harris). Not the original slippery elm but looks very similar. Probably in the old Bank House grounds. I can almost hear a story coming on that starts.." When I was a lad...."

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Is it the last standing elm tree in Barlick, now about to be cloned and its brethren sent out to colonise the rest of this island?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
The picture is distorted as though it has been taken through frosted glass or one of those Google Street View pictures that are many frames stitched together. Could it be a reflection on water?
Dare I guess that it was taken on your canal walk on 1st January 2017?

I think China is on the right track. I had put the distortion down to my eyes but he's right, it looks like a reflection.......

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
China is spot on - picture taken on canal walk, which I've rotated 180 degrees. This one is close to the canal corner where the icebreaker was moored.
It was jaw dropping to see the reflections in the water.
Here's another view from the walk. (Our house can just be glimpsed through the tree trunks, next to the new build going up in the neighbouring field.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Well done China, I was completely fooled by the distortions - I could see the effects but didn't recognise them as due to reflection, I thought they were a characteristic of the type of tree, so I racked my brains for which tree species had distorted growth. Elm is a bit like that and tends to sprout of bits on the nodes like the one in the pic. My next suggestion was going to be weeping willow.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Before the shoe box developments along the far bank of the canal there used to be a willow on the bend where the old wooden ice breaker was, it made quite an idyllic scene. I have put this up before, it's relevant here. My dad sketched this in 1936 when he was 17.

1936 is well before my time... Stanley's picture is how I remember the icebreaker.
Last reflection for good measure.
