Awwww...that is cruel. We have had the discussion soooooo many times. ( harder than deciding to have another baby). I truly believe that costs of vet care have priced us out of the market for another pet! Sad...but true. Our beloved dog became Diabetic. Plus she had a knee replacement. I’m sorry...head ruling over heart...we cannot afford another pet.

I made sourdough pizza dough yesterday and let it mature in the fridge overnight. This is how it turned out:

Onion, Garlic, Tomatoes, Mozzarella, Peppers and Sliced Chorizo.

Sally had a veggie version.

It does look pretty darn special.
I will have the Veg version without Garlic thanks!

Were you pleased with the base? I’ve never tried Sour Dough Pizza base.

Yes Maz, my starter is about 8 weeks old now and has made for us, two sourdough loaves, one fruit cake, two lots of fruit scones and the pizza bases. I have shared the starter with three others who, all apart from one have made various goodies from their starter. The failure was down to a faulty Kilner jar that the starter was put in, it was so active that it exploded! I will supply her with another 250ml after I feed my mother culture again. I have suggested she keeps the next batch in a plastic container. :extrawink:

If anything the base was slightly sweet as I have been feeding the starter for cake and scones. Still nice though, thin and crunchy round the edges. I will just feed with flour and water next time which is how I started it with the addition of a few chopped grapes. It's a bit like a pet in the care and feeding. :extrawink:

Yes...I have been reading about it. Quite fascinating. I’m just not sure we would get the use out of it ( both being Diabetic and Bread a rarity these days, with cakes even rarer) but I have read you can freeze your starter for up to a year once it is mature (doubling every 8 hours).

A bit like the Ginger Beer starters when we were kids...need regular attention. Everyone remembers Ginger Beer exploding in the pantry when they were young...

I have two requests for starters, I will feed mine twice this week to produce the volume required in spare discard. Bloomer is nearly done so will need a bread variant next bake.

They have taken our favourite Naan Bread off the shelves at the supermarket. We have tried two other brands that they replaced it with, but we didn’t like either one of them. I must try making some. We don’t have it often, but it is a treat with Curry.
Home made Gnocchi from the freezer tonight. I still have to make the sauce yet. Then I boil the salted water and pop the Gnocchi through in batches. They are fun to make ( a bit messy on your first few tries but then you learn how to streamline production), and they are fun to cook. They simply puff up and float once cooked.

Grocery shop tomorrow, so scraping the bottom of the fridge out and using up all the veg. Spicy Beef and Veg Noodles tonight.
We will have that with the last packet of the Naan Bread ( that we aren’t keen on), but I can’t throw it away.

I had 4 pork and pepper sausages to work with so I had two in a tomato bread roll for lunch.

I cooked the other two at the same time then chopped them up for tea along with the remaining Chorizo from the pizzas, a large onion, half a tin of chopped tomatoes, tin of baked beans, frozen sliced peppers, and frozen peas to give the red mix a bit of colour, chucked in a veggie stock cube and Bobs your Uncle. A portion of sausage stir with one of my small loaves for tea. Two portions for the freezer for convenience.

Very tasty, I forget to mention I chopped half a red chilli into it as well to give it a bit of zing. :biggrin2:

I had two sun dried tomato bread rolls so my tea became the second one. Lightly buttered, bed of lettuce, sliced vine tomato, chopped spring onion, two small oven cooked chicken burgers (bought as part of a £5.00 deal from the Coop), salt and pepper and a spoonful of mayo, tasty.

I agree Maz.
I had a little bit of the mutton and veggies left so I had that with a steak pudding for breakfast. Tea was a small pork pie, peas and chips followed by stewed plums and cream. The plums were very tart and I put no sugar in them, they were lovely with the cream.
