Yesterday I had a sandwich for lunch. Two slices of Chia bread with vine tomato, red onion, Peperami sausage and a spoon of mayo, lovely. For tea we had spaghetti, Sally had hers with a veggie mince based sauce and I didn't have a bolognaise in the freezer so put a portion of beef chilli on with some extra mature cheddar, that was very tasty as well.

Middle son, his partner and daughter came round for a socially distanced tea yesterday. The Sunday Buffet, from the Barlic Raj, went down very well sat out under the gazebo. Sunshine and a chat, in the flesh, instead of a video call. An enjoyable change.

Mock Crab toastie for lunch today made with Chia and done in the Dualit toaster. Sally has been reading one of her wartime cookbooks so we might have a go at a few more of the recipes. I have some diced Lamb in the slow cooker, some of which I shall have for tea.

I have started a sourdough loaf and it is on it's first rise, will revisit it tonight and knock it back. I need to make some sourdough pizza dough as well to go in the fridge for tomorrow, I have Peperoni to use up so that will be tomorrows tea.

Of course, I had to google 'mock crab' didn't I ? Could it somehow be related to the more famous 'mock turtle' ?Mock crab

Well - quite a disappointment - as expected it's nothing at all to do with crab - in fact to call it cheesy scrambled egg would be nearer the mark. Looks OK. I've eaten it many a time.

I can't actually remember ever eating a crab.

Sausage and veggies twice for breakfast and tea.
I slow cooked a ham hock and a mutton one. Both deboned and defatted. Meat and Gravy in fridge. I fancy pea soup......

I had lamb that I cooked with oregano, chips and peas. Two portions of diced lamb in the freezer for future development. Sourdough loaf will be ready for lunch today but not sure what with yet. Peperoni pizza tonight, need onions and a few more vine tomatoes sometime today.

I seem to have bought in a lot of the veggie fake meat, it is mostly pea and soya based, It should be farming/people friendly. Mince, Burgers, Sausages and Pea pasta. I might even get round to cooking and eating some.

I had the meat off the mutton shank with peas and veggies for breakfast and the Hock ham with peas and veggies for tea. Hock ham is so tasty!
Defrosted the freezer and half a sheep arrives tomorrow with the weekly butcher's order.

Cleared out the Veg drawer in the fridge, ready for a fresh shop tomorrow. Made a Vegetable Curry with all that I found.
I still had half a Cauliflower left, so I chopped that up and steamed it. When it cools, I shall bag it up and freeze it. It will come in handy when the price of fresh Cauliflowers is beyond our budget!

Last of the meat and veggies for breakfast. Battered cod fillets, peas and some onion and tomato relish I made for tea.
Today's food resolution, my knees are increasingly bothering me. The message is clear, lose at least 30lbs. I haven't bothered about my weight for a while, too much stress with cancer and Covid. Time for a change of tack!

Sounds like you're really looking forward to it! One thing I found out about vegetarian food, it's good for "windy bottoms"...

It made two meals. I did a kind of bologanse frying in a pan, added chopped tomatoes from a tin, some chopped onion, added pear and apple chutney and mango chutney , topped off with grated cheese. Served in a totilla wrap.

Haggis, two fried eggs and tomato and onion relish for breakfast. Tea was two small battered cod fillets with peas and again a bit of the tomato and onion.
By the way, my new smoke alarm went off as I fried my onions. It was only then I realised the air was blue!

Here's a veg box that Mr Poet from next door has just brought me. All grown on his allotment, and fresh picked. I think that cauli could win a prize. I am lucky with my neighbours.

Yes it's kohlrabi. Some kind of brassica veg. I had an allotment centuries ago, and grew some and they were one of my few successes. I think you can treat them like turnip, or Mr P says they are good grated in a coleslaw. I fancy that will be its fate.

Well - I bottled out of the coleslaw idea. After peeling, It was a bit too hard and turnipy, and I put so many things in the mix, I probably wouldn't taste it. I boiled it with a diced carrot, and served it as a warm starter with salt and pepper, and a chunk of Normandy butter. Very nice.

I'd say - grow some in your poly tunnel up there in the hills - I think you'll like it, and its dramatic appearance is a conversation piece.

PS The egg with no white was collateral damage in my Morrisons delivery last night - waste not want not.
