The OS map names it Butts Beck as it passes Butts then Stock Beck when it reaches Stock and Gillians Beck where it approaches Ouzledale by 40 steps.

1955 OS map shows Stock from Corn Mill forwards. Butts is from confluence of Gillians and Calf Hall becks at Butts. That's why I put both names in, there has always been slight confusion. For instance, Stock Beck Haulage was in Barlick, not at Stock so they thought the name applied below Corn Mill.

My trout tickling haunts in the local becks as a young lad always known as Springs above Calf Hall, then Calf Hall, becoming Butts when Gillians joins, Butts down as far as Cornmill then Stock with Cloggers (Fools Syke) joining the other side of Greenberfied Lane, heading for Bracewell.

Top of Springs (below dam) and up toward Brogden farm in Cloggers had the biggest fish, narrow becks and good under bank ledges. You needed a mate to hold your legs so you could get right under with your arms. 3lb fish not uncommon. Always put a smile on my dads face when I landed home with a decent brown.

That's my understanding as well Ian. (Not that it matters much!) Lots in the Calf Hall Shed Company minute books on Springs and Dark Hill Well....

A wintry Lane Bottoms. Jim Haworth, the 'Firewood King' lived at Lane Bottoms between the wars and had a shed on the spare ground to the left of the entrance. He was William Rushton's second in command and many an industrial action directed against the More Looms problem was planned in this quiet corner. Not necessarily instantly recognisable as a hotbed of revolutionary fervour!

Travis, I've always assumed it was a farm cottage at Higher Greenhill farm, on the left as you go over the canal bridge on Salterforth Lane. This is the 1914 revision of the OS map.

In 2005 this was a big change in the Colne Road area. Houses springing up like mushrooms.

I know at least two members who will recognise this forgotten corner. 6 Back Cone Road.

That letter box is a joy to get to... though not as bad as some in the town centre, some of which I continue to discover after thirty odd years of delivering in Barnoldswick.

The bottom of Manchester Road in 1984. The Co-op is still a shop and the police station was still in use. Since then the end of Monk's house has changed from a barn to a dwelling.

I think this was 1980 when Wild's Garage on Manchester Road was demolished.

I'd put it later from memory.

I think Harry Smith had the garage for Hown Transport before it was knocked down for redevelopment.

One of the perennial problems in that neck of the woods used to be back Cobden Street, which wasn't made up until later in the 1980s. Memory tells me that the garage was still there when the road was made up.

Harry did indeed have the garage for a while, I did the signwriting on one of his wagons in there.

I could well be wrong on the date. I get them from the file numbers in my archive and I have to admit this one is confusing even me!
I've looked at the other files in the series and think it was May 2002.

Looking for a picture of the date stone from the re-development of the former Wild's garage site, I came across this image, which is a genuine forgotten corner, as I've forgotten where it is!
