MEDICAL MATTERS
Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Sooo, two weeks and two days after a complete knee replacement I am walking about 1 Km a day with 1 crutch but around the house not using crutches. My wound has fully healed and is enjoying the fresh air, getting comfy in bed is a bit of an issue but kicking Mick out into the spare bed maked things easier.
My health fund is covering 25 hours of rehab at the hospital (which involves my Chauffeur - Katie.......driving me) mmmmm im a very nervous passenger to say the least especially when she is driving my car. My first session was yesterday wherre they told me that I was way ahead of some other knee replacement patients which is down to the prehab that I did before the op. I did physio and reformer pilates for 3.5 months before hand as recommended by my surgeon.
I just need to stop my knee cap clicking when I walk which is driving me mad. Onwards and upwards from here.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
All the best Mags. You are certainly putting the work in.
I’m sure it will pay-off for you.

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I had a trip over to the Yorkshire Clinic at Bingley yesterday, company for a friend who was having an MRI scan. Its a private hospital but stands in as a reserve for if the scanner at Airedale is out of action which was the case for a couple of days.
The point of the post though is that at the entrance there is an advertising board for robotic knee replacement at the hospital. There was a feature on the news today that AI is being used to train Neurosurgeons in inter cranial surgery techniques, that is the removal of tumours embedded inside the brain, typically around the pituitary area. Apparently it only took the AI system 10 months to learn all the techniques that would normally take a human surgeon ten years to master.

I heard that report as well and am not sure what to think. I'm sure we'll get used to Star Trek medicine eventually but I have to admit I have an understandable aversion to robots..... I'm still struggling with computers and smart phones! Remember I was born into a very different world in 1936.

My knee operation was done robotically. I was asked if I would be happy to have it done robotically so I said yes......

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Need to notify the DVLA now, I've been awaiting confirmation from the consultant. Fortunately I don't have to surrender my licence

I hope that goes better than when I did it Kev. I asked for advice and they revoked my licence.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
In my case it's only an issue if the tumour impacts the optic nerve and affects my eyesight, it's not big enough for that so all is good at the moment. Another MRI and blood tests in December.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
My medical matter is of much lesser significance. I shall try for my Annual Flu Jab at the surgery at 9AM this morning......

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
At 9AM the queue extended up Park Road, I reckon there were a hundred in it and inside the surgery. I was jabbed, out and back home by 09:30 so I have switched the chicken on again for the final browning and I shall make a spicy hamburger for lunch.
But first, a well earned pot of tea!

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Just got ours done Stanley, 40 mins in the queue, good job it wasn't raining. Someone asked why it was a a walk in rather than appointments, they said that despite appointments last year the uptake dropped off dramatically hence trying this alternative.

I believe it is offered when you go for the covid booster, I'm aware of a couple of people who have taken the offer.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I'll pass on Covid booster until I can get it in Barlick. I'm not fit to travel and it's ridiculous that there isn't a service in a town with 11,000 inhabitants!
Feeling a bit achy this morning, don't know whether that's the jab or imagination. I shall have an easy day...... That can't possibly do me any harm!

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Doesn't look like the surgery are going to offer it, I presume one of the chemists will at some point. Closest at the moment is Nelson.
If you are eligible for a Covid vaccine, you will be contacted by the NHS. We are not doing vaccines at the surgery and we cannot book appointments. Please ring 119 or book an appointment via the national booking system.
Our reception team are unable to help with any Covid vaccine queries.

No service in Colne or places inbetween either, yet 2 pharmacies in Nelson offering the jab.Stanley wrote: ↑01 Oct 2023, 02:25 I'll pass on Covid booster until I can get it in Barlick. I'm not fit to travel and it's ridiculous that there isn't a service in a town with 11,000 inhabitants!

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
That confirms my impression that the coverage is very patchy Wendy. Unless it's just that some bids to provide the service haven't been approved yet. I have an idea that's the case here and that's why I shall wait until later this month.....
