Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
Yes I can see them. I told you this before. So now I have a simple question. which image do I post, the one I have always used or the one that Kev suggested using image image?
As for image size, I keep the new images as small as is practical.

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
I would suggest the one using the full URL. It renders as full size or a preset 800x600 if larger.

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
Universal Reference Locator. The text string you see in the (URL) bar in your browser. From the Galleries point of view its the one you have always used and not the BB Code version.

Thank you Ian but I have just read Kev saying that he couldn't see that pic on Chrome on his phone at 17:48 yesterday.... It's very confusing.

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
It depend on which platform and which browser you are using whether you can see images using the full URL string from the Gallery. This is down to how those combinations handle their security. there are lots of permutations. That is why there is a wildcard option on the SSL certificate and that is the crux of the matter. T
The wildcard option should deploy automatically every 3 months as should the SSL certificate that supports it. That is the bit that is broken and at the moment it has both myself and Kev baffled as to why it should have failed. The SSL certificates are set to auto renew which normally occurs around 30 days before they expire, (they are only valid for 90 days) and for some yet unknown reason that failed this time.
It worked in January and there have been no updates to the site software but there could have been in the Plesk console which could be the problem, they too are set to auto update. It's a pretty unique problem down to how the Gallery reference images so no direct help available on the phpBB support for the Gallery which shouldn't even work on this version of the board running on a VPS or the Plesk side of things which knows nothing about the phpBB Gallery extension. Catch 22 and not a lot of clues.

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
I can only soldier on and hope the problem gets fixed one way or another....

In 1982 this was the view from the top of the steep path from Commercial Street down into Butts. You can see the top end of the large brick stables which lined the path all the way to Butts and also, on the right, the end wall of the top floors of what were used as the town shambles by the butchers. There used to be a large workshop where the rubble is laid. This was originally Briggs and Duxbury's premises until at least 1932 because we have the evidence of Harold Duxbury watching the July 1932 flood from the window. Shortly after that B&D bought the Model Lodging House and converted that to their works. The old shop they had vacated was burnt down by fire and never rebuilt.

I love that picture. The house styles were the same as where I lived. I can relate to it. I note obviously very few men in it.
We shall never see its like again. I was three at the time. My earliest memory of a street party was the Coronation in 1953.
Is that you on the front row amongst the girls - and giving a non - Churchillian V sign?

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
There was always hot water at the taps and boiling water in the kettle, both powered by live steam from the boiler house. At one time the management used to charge the workers a penny a week for the use of the steam hot water boiler but I think they stopped doing that during WW2.

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
The rope race at Mons Mill Todmorden. The Carel Frere's engine their was the largest textile mill engine in the UK. The reason why there are so few ropes on the flywheel is that only one half of the intended mill was built. The engine was reputed to be capable of producing over 4,000hp but never ran at more than half this so it was always uneconomical.

Mons engine. Impressive but as Newton said, it was always a wastrel. He saw it running and said he didn't like it, it was rough.

The morning after!
According to Ken Ridge, who lent me the photo, the lad in the oversize cloth cap in the left centre is Walt Boss, Jim Boss's son. The family name was actually Smith. Walt was Muriel's uncle. As you can see from the caption, this was 1923.

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
If you go into the field on the other side of the canal from Lower Park Marina you'll find this little mystery.... It's where the water that drains from the sloping field dives underground. But how many people could say where it goes? The answer is under the canal into the Bowker Drain on the opposite side. There are two oak lined culverts under the canal and if it wasn't for them the bottom of the field would be a lake. Those culverts are more than two hundred years old.... Have they ever been maintained? I doubt it and one of these days it might be necessary. I like forgotten corners like this......
