No Cathy, I haven't traced anyone back to Scotland or Scandinavia. My mother's side are firmly based in Yorkshire and my father's side goes back to Cambridgeshire but I can't get back much beyond the late 18th century as the surname spelling gets very mixed up. The Trossells/Throssells/Trussells came over with the Normans but the name is more common in Scandinavia than it is here. I seem to have a lot of 3rd and 4th cousins mainly in the USA but have only been able to make a connection to one of them.

I’ve got back in Scotland and Ireland, but not in Scandinavia or Europe.

This is interesting, I thought I’ll add my list on here, when I go to look Ireland is no longer, it was there, and I definitely have Irish ancestors.

We could be related Gloria! Mine was originally Scotland and Ireland lumped together but I've lost the Ireland bit too.

I would have thought that a survey that included Scotland would automatically include Ireland. All the to-ing and fro-ing between Scotland and Ireland and then the spudatoe famine would affect everybody.

I understand how more is found as more tests are done, but I don’t understand how some can be lost.

I thought I had trimmed my screenshot but I hadn't, so I deleted the post Gloria. I also lied, I still have some Irish DNA!

Yes - that was a guess - I just saw it was nearly ended, but it seems it expired on the 24th, the day I joined. Sorry if I misled anyone. I got lucky - that makes a change.

I suppose the info they give you is only as good as the info they have at the time.
It’s good that they give updates but I don’t understand why some info would drop out.

I think Scotland and Ireland were originally grouped together as one area and now they are separate, perhaps Gloria's Irish ancestors came from Scotland....

Gloria's post has got us going again. I upgraded our copy of Family Tree Maker to the latest version yesterday. I had not been able to get the 2010 version of the software that we had running on Windows 10. It has few more bells and whistles to the previous version. I have already attached it to cloud storage and today I will hook it up to the Church of Latter Day Saints database. We are still contemplating re subscribing to Ancestry. I am hoping the Mormons have saved my oldest known paternal relation John of Marsett.

Thanks for the thought Gloria. No I haven't felt the urge to scratch that itch since we did the big number on father and solved most of the mysteries....

No hints on John of Marsett but we have re-subscribed to Ancestry and our tree has now lit up like a Christmas Tree with hints. Will take a while to work through those. Quite a few are from the 1939 Register of abode and occupation at the outbreak of WWII for those who were around at the time. We will have the 1921 electoral register released, is that next year? I believe that one has a bit more information on than previous enumerations.

The 1921 census will be released in January 2022.

Ancestry. I had a look last night to find my parents in the 1939 'census'. never been able to in previous attempts, and I've a vague memrory that Wendyf tried to help, and couldn't find them either. Still didn't come up on a normal search, so I did a bit of lateral thinking, and put in the name of the next door neighbour, who had a fairly rare first name 'Moses'.

Found him straight away, and looking at the record showed all the neighbours including my parents - clearly there. I wonder why the serach didn't find them.

I have found that John of Marsett's eldest daughter Agnes had four children that I was unaware of.

I think this wants putting under genealogy, but for some reason can’t find it.
