Sorry Ken, I like Marty Robbins and Big Iron and I have done it on occasion. But my party pieces at Karaoke are El Paso from Marty. Mack the Knife and Somewhere Beyond the Sea from Bobby Darren, Mona Lisa from Nat and Islands in the Stream from Dolly and Kenny along with Sally. In the past, "mates" have signed me up to do He Ain't Heavy by the Hollies, cunningly difficult to sing but I make my own key changes up on that one.

A spot of quiet music. Nothing fancy just good wholesome noise. Amazing how all these ladies get into the act.

I just looked up Suky Tawdry, and whilst thus occupied I find that Bertold Brecht (I think he was a bit of a lefty ) also wrote the plays 'Mother Courage' and 'The Caucasian Chalk Circle' both of which I vaguely remember (the former with Dame Flora Robson) on early BBC TV. Doubt they'll ever be seen again there. Didn't understand them then and perhaps I woudn't even now. I guess they're on Youtube somewhere - but I only have about twenty hours a day for looking at stuff.

Here's another 'furrin' song sung by Placido Domingo, with a very handy built in translation. This not the version I like best ( and there are literally dozens) - that's by the Israeli singer Geula Gill (fantastic voice) - but it's good, with some very good accompanying pictures. I wonder if they came first - or the works of Sir William Russell Flint?

Loving this thread but must admit it makes me feel a bit inadequate. Bit like reading some of Uncle Bob's book recommendations and finding you don't understand what's exciting him. It immediately put me in mind of Huxley's book "Doors of Perception".

I found that since I have a nasty case of "late onset assertiveness" (verging on cockiness with a tendency to flippancy) it was quite easy to dismiss it all as nonsense. Made easier by paying heed to Huxley's own quote - used recently on here. I guess he must have reached this conclusion long after writing the book.

This is all way beyond me, but I'd like to say a big thank you to Stanley!! For days I have been suffering from a terrible earworm...the tune from an awful advert that goes " I sold my car to We Buy Any Car" repeated constantly. (Apologies if I've infected anyone's ears with that!) Now it's been replaced with "Since You've Been Gone." What a relief.
