I'd forgotten about this thread. Nice to look back at things. I did a Google search for 'persiflagillistically' and there is only one result - which is this thread! That's a 'googlewhack'

As a lady in Richmond once said, interrupting the radio field strenght measurements I was doing in Richmond, "I'm troubled wi' me nerse". Well so am I - and seeing the chiminea reminded me that I noticed Sue seems to have one in her wonderful garden.

Finished the guttering on the kitchen this afternoon, it was nice out in the sunshine. Even got to the recycling centre to get rid of the old gutter and rotten wood.

The PIR carriage lamp outside my back door has decided to stop 'sensing'. The usual reset procedures haven't resolved the issue so it's time to get a new one, I would have needed to move it anyway to suit the new French doors that are going in in the next few weeks. I've ordered a replacement from Screwfix in Nelson, usually this is a 1 hour pickup (it showed as in stock) but has to come in from their distribution centre which has scuppered my plans for today. Shame really as the sun is peeping through.

Collected all the bits from Screwfix, a Saturday morning job to fit it I reckon.

It did indeed, the new 600mm x 16mm SDS bit made short work of the hole for the cable, a spur from one of the sockets and all was sorted within an hour. The sensor works as expected, that's everything in place for the fitting of the French doors and kitchen changes.

Is it still legal to install your own light? I ask because so many things have changed....

Yes. It's just replacing the existing light, just in a different place. The fused spur for it is off of the same ring (the old spur removed) and all the components are BS7671 compliant.

Good, I was wishing I hadn't posted the question Kev. Sorry for that. So many things are illegal today.... Just imagine if they started enforcing H&S with my shed.....

It's not a worry. You can carry out electrical jobs in your home it's just the major ones, additional ring mains, full rewires etc, that require inspection and signing off by building control. I did this at the Park Street kitchen extension.

I rewired all the kitchen and downstairs at our Jacks house but Nathan, (one of my son in laws lads) came and tested and did the final connections to the consumer unit. As Kev says you are fine as long as you get a certified electrician to test and connect on the bigger jobs.

Work has started on the doors, slightly delayed by the weather but it's drying up now.

Thanks Ian, the guys did a great job. The weather threw a spanner in the works so I've got to wait until Wednesday for the bay window on the kitchen now, then it's my turn to do some work with the kitchen refit.
I'm thinking about boxing in the bathroom drain pipes too, they're a bit ugly but I don't have the room to re route them inside.

The thing that struck me was short sleeves and shorts. I had fleecy shirt and Crombie on when I went for my walk!
I had my own bit of a project.....



My right knee has been gradually deteriorating and I got to the stage where I thought a walking stick might help so I cut my Blackthorn crook down to the right length and tried it. Much better and I think a good idea, not only is it taking weight off my knee but it could make it less likely a spasm of pain could cause a fall. It feels like giving in but like the wheeled shopper I think it's sensible.
(I blame all those hours with my clog firmly down on the accelerator pedal in the wagon......)

Kev, I was just thinking that now we are in times when we get thunder storms and floods of biblical proportions it may be wise to review if you need any additional flooding protection to stop it entering the house.
