I cant tell if my Alfie is going grey 'cos he is white to start with. He is nearly thirteen though and doing very well apart from being a bit deaf. He was getting stiff and sore a couple of years ago so we started giving him cod liver oil and glucosamine tablets and they have made a big improvement.

Cod Liver oil, or rather long chain Omega-3 oil is what keeps me going.

Metacam is brilliant for dogs with a degree of stiffness, it was like a mircle cure with one of ours.

Gloria, I always remember going to an old doctor with a torn ligament in my arm and his considered advice was to rub it. I was bit annoyed at the time but he was right actually and I've always held that its a good thing for dogs as well. If you have a small dog with joint pains etc it's a good thing to get into the habit of getting them on your knee and massaging/stroking them for as long as they enjoy it. Good for the stroker as well, we are told that it brings our stress levels down!

Met Elaine and the Poochon yesterday. She was very suspicious about Jack but I reckon she could warm to him! [The dog, not Elaine!]

Big Kev did a pic of Black Jack with my camera this morning. A bit of a goodie!

Jack went to see Mrs Marsh yesterday, as usual he was a complete gent with her and she gave him an excellent report as usual. She still wants him but says that it would cause too much trouble if she took him home....
We only see her once a year but it is always a treat. I think she comes very close to being the perfect vet and I'm sure you all know how good it is to have someone like that about. He's gained a couple of pounds but nothing to worry about, he's five years old now and at his peak of development, I shall make sure he doesn't get fat!

With luck, and the blessing of the current owner who is moving the dog on, Merle a 5 year old neutered male rough collie will be here at the end of the month

I spoke to the very tearful owner last night, she will delivery him on 28/29th,

Hopefully the friend who put it altogether will also be here. Can not thank him enough for the recommendation. :cool4:

Merlin in Valley Gardens yesterday:

He's a little timid at the moment and settling in, but otherwise he is wonderful

Jack met Merlin, barked once to assert his authority, sniffed his bum for future reference and then went on with his business. Amazing to realise that he now has a complete picture of Merlin from that one sniff.

On the lead he is very quiet, off it he bounces up to people and dogs barking like a little puppy.

Amazing that even after so few days he comes to a call :cool4:

Have you tried a whistle on him? If he responds it can be handy.

Not tried the whistle yet, I'm hoping that it is just settling in as he scares easily with the trucks going down the road

On the lead he is as good as gold :cool4:

Fireworks are affecting Jack already. He can hear things I can't and the poor lad has started to have unsettled evenings. He buries himself in what he evidently considers the safest corner under the table next to my chair. Sooner they let them all off the better! Tonight will be a bad one, I hope we have wind and rain.......
