Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
They'll be inviting you in for cystoscopy Kev. That was how it went with me. I hope you are different!

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I hope so too, I had one of those about 15 years ago. A ginger nut every four hours is keeping the nausea at bay, these ABs need to get a wiggle on. I'm a terrible patient.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Nonsense! Nobody enjoys ill-health. I wish you the best of luck.
Mind you cystoscopies with modern equipment are a doddle these days compared with when I had my first and the optic cable was the same size as a garden hose.....

I reckon the ABs have kicked in, I am awake and eating a bowl of cereal. Faith in modern medicine is restored.

Thank you, it was a stubborn infection. It was good to wake up feeling hungry.

Cheers
I've even made myself a cup of tea, I've not been able to even look at one for 3 or 4 days which is way out of character for me.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
UTIs can be powerful infections Kev and are a lot more common than many people think. My encounter with Cystitis taught me a lesson I have never forgotten. Certainly the worst pain I have ever had to suffer.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Just had a message from Barlick Medical Centre, I am to stop taking the current antibiotics and start a new prescription the Dr has just prescribed. The lab must have come through with an updated result. P will be dispatched to the chemist shortly.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I hope that helps, Kev. I wonder what it will be - a different AB, or a combination of ABs, or AB plus a bactericidal chemical?

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I've just looked on the NHS web site and was interested by this: When you take nitrofurantoin, your body quickly filters it out of your blood and into your pee. This is useful if you have a urinary tract infection because it means the medicine is concentrated at the site of infection. But it means nitrofurantoin will not work for any other types of infection.
It also means that the `alien' chemical is in your body for only a short time. Very clever. You'll also be pleased by another comment on the site: You can drink alcohol while taking nitrofurantoin.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Maybe more in Science. US seems to be cutting back federally in vaccination programmes leaving it to States, and reducing the CDC centre for disease control.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Re. the changed prescription..... The problem with UTIs is that there are so many different breeds of infection. The lady who cracked mine all those years ago said that men were lucky. It was a longer route to their bladder due to design differences in men and women and so men tended to have more simple infections. I think she must have known of what she spoke! She hit my Cystitis on the head and it has never returned..... (Touching wood!)

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Tomorrow I am off for a full body mole scan after my recent brush with skin cancer - I had a Basel Cell Carcinoma stage or Level 3 on my cheek.
My GP diagnosed it, removed it, sent it off for pathology, got me back to the surgery - removed the rest and gave me 15stitches within 3 weeks. All is healed nicely now.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
We play hell when things go wrong so we should remark on things that go well....
Well Pharmacy's text warning service is working well and no queues at the shop. The surgery rang me yesterday and we made an appointment for foot neuropathy on March 4th. Both just what should happen!

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Re news of 2nd stage College of Physicians exams. I understand some folk marked down as failed, had passed. Others marked as Passed have failed and will have to re-sit ( presumably the others were re-sitting too). I assume someone added a row in one colum of a spreadsheet and all the results dropped down one name ? ( one would have thought they had better systems than that ). Question is the standard is normally so high does it matter if one is treated by BA(Hons)(Calcutta) (Failed) or not ?

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Sorry to hear that Kev.... I think the problem is identifying the bug and prescribing the appropriate AB.
And of course we should remember that some ABs are losing their efficacy as bugs become resistant, that might be playing a part as well.
I wish you the best of luck!
