Nice contrast David and telling..... Our anthem is a disgrace and has been for many years...... Why does it always remind me of All Things bright and Beautiful.... could it be "The rich man in his castle, the poor man at his gate. God made them, high or lowly, And ordered their estate."

The pepper plant is still growing and producing peppers, they are just 'regular' and not chillies. We've eaten one so far which was about the size of a golf ball.

At the very least you know that they are fresh!
I used to love the taste of fresh tomatoes when I lived at Bark Lane and we had a greenhouse.....

I bumped into a video of "Pendle Village" yesterday, which is a mill converted into a destination shopping centre in Brierfield. It concentrated on the external architecture rather than the retail units inside. It's certainly an impressive building with a magnificent chimney. and would easily stand comparison with Saltaire. I was mildly surprised that I had never heard of it.

I got to wondering if the workers back in the day, appreciated the architecture in which they toiled, or whether it was just the owner and aesthetes who enjoyed it and they couldn't care less.

I couldn't help thinking of the comedy series Brass.
"I can't stand here talking all day - I've got men to lay off".

David, Re the mill and whether the workers might have appreciated the architecture. I doubt it, they had more immediate problems to deal with. I certainly never came across any appreciation in the LTP!
Kev, talking about using your home brew to 'warm the cockles'. I came across some whisky in the Highlands that was bottled from single cask bought direct from the distillery, without any added water to standardise the proof number, the bottle I have is 105.8proof and 8 years old.
The bottling was done by a grocer called Ian MacLeod who specialised in bulk catering for the fishing fleets. If you ever feel like trying it they sell it at the Whisky shop next to High Mill in Skipton. I would highly recommend it! If you ever want to try some, call in, I still have a bottle in the Vatican cellar.
I forgot to mention. It's called 'As We Get It' (LINK)

The return of the flâneur

"We are the post-pandemic flâneurs: stepping out of social media silos to meet people and connect with the world around us"

The Guardian catches up with us. This was my personal word of the year last year.

I have registered it as an alias, in my email account - still works. How childish. . . :laugh5:

I don't think it's childish David..... I don't think you and I are natural candidates for 'Social Media silos'
I once joined Facebook many years ago but soon got their drift, made my apologies and left.... :biggrin2:
(But then again, unlike you, I don't think I am Flaneur material either!)

I mentioned I had an email address with flaneur in it. I got such an addressed email today telling me that Gus Brennan had posted some new photos. I think that's a first/

I'm calling that a bit spooky.

I note that Google Maps has relabelled the Gulf of Mexico as "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)".

I await the inevitable renaming of the English Channel as "Coopers Crossing".

Le Manche (or is it La, and there are probably accents in there too)

David, I don't understand apps. Is Google maps free?

I think so. I pay Google about $14 per annum for photo storage. I don't think that's a factor though.

Try it and see. You can click and drag the little yellow man, from the bottom right hand corner, into a road in the map and see the "steet view". I've done it all over the world. When it's too slippy to get down the Coop steps - try an international stroll. It's warmer too.

Try this link https://maps.app.goo.gl/v1cCHhJtkCVYCaZq8

Stanley, `app' is just short for `software application'. Enter the words google maps in your search bar and the world is your mollusc (as T. Pratchett used to say), then as Tripps said drag the little yellow man from the bottom right corner to a point of interest on the map. I've just used it to re-visit Scripps Institution of Oceanography on the coast just north of San Diego. I was last there in the late 1970s. It's probably in limbo at the moment thanks to the two noddies in the Oval Office. Lord knows what it's ocean research vessels will be doing now around the world when they've been told not to communicate with any `outsiders'.

Click on the yellow triangle icon and then put the link to the image in the middle of the code that appears

Cathy, in the post editor there is a yellow triangle icon with an exclamation mark in the centre. This is the insert spoiler tool. Place your cursor where you want to insert the spoiler, after you have typed your question then click the icon. Insert your answer text at the cursor position. Anything between the spoiler codes will be hidden until the link is selected in your post. Use the preview post to play around.

Thanks both. I’ll have a go.
Had to have a bit of Plumbing done today.
A Riser was blocked by a tree root, it was cut back and the pipe was fixed. All good, but this caught my attention, not in a good way. 😲
I don’t think this Plumber wears ‘Tradie Underwear’.
Oh dear.
