Richard, did she put boiled eggs in it? My mother made a wonderful fish pie but always put eggs in. Finished the stew, had a brisket butty for tea. Today I shall have the same and get rid of another frozen stew! I froze 5 helpings of the sea pie.... That's the trouble with being an enthusiastic cook living on your own!

It's fresh ginger in the recipe Moh, but I never have any when I need it so I keep a jar of "very lazy ginger" in the fridge, which is preserved in vinegar.

Sausage dish tonight which I got off the tv. You fry the sausages in oil in an ovenproof dish, when they are browned remove and add onion to the oil, saute for a few minutes then add quartered potatoes and garlic, roll round in the oil, then put the sausages back in. Add a drop of water, stir everything round, cover and place in the oven. Take the lid off for the last 10 mins to brown. Hope it is as good as it looked.

I'll bet it was Moh, all the right ingredients!
I had porridge again for dinner and then popped some oxtail in a pan with onions garlic Oxo, salt and pepper and popped it on the stove in the front room to argue with itself for about three hours, then I popped some carrots, peas, some small spuds and a big swede in and left it on the stove for another three hours. I had a beef butty for tea but then just a taste of the oxtail stew. All I can say is that people who don't cook have no idea what they are missing. It was superb and after re-heating today it will be even better. Lovely grub and so cheap! Funnily enough a bloke I know I should have recognised saw me in Chowdrey's and said "Another Stew Stanley!" Sorry, I know I should have recognised you but I am so bad with faces!

The sausage dish was lovely and so easy to make, I omitted to say add some lemon zest & lemon juice - it really lifted the dish.
Roast Aberdeen Angus beef tonight with the usual veg and yorkies.

Sorry Ian, it's me age! (Or could have been the big hat.....) Tell me who you are the next time we meet! Barlick's a small town and due to the articles many strangers know my name, nice! The oxtail was great after standing all night and another short boil on the stove. Had a cheese and poached egg butty for tea though because I fancied it and the loaf needed finishing off.

Tonight...I've no idea, but have lots of leftovers... so.

Yesterday we walked oer hill & dale from Gisburn to Horton on Craven then on to Bracewell (miffed that the church was locked) and back to Gisburn. Quite clear day with some wonderful views. Rewarded ourselves with a trip to the Bull at Broughton & had chipolatas, onion fritters with spiced lentils & frumenty, which is a dish of medieval origin made out of wheat. Yum yum.

Oxtail dead so today I'll have 2x frozen sea pie. Mustn't cook any more meat until I have cleared out the backlog! Getting there... No problem actually because it's good stuff and just the thing for cold weather!

Put the last two frozen Sea Pie with the remains of the oxtail. Too much for tea so I shall bulk up the remainder with something for dinner today and have a butty for tea. (Loaf in the machine as I speak....)

Had fish & chips in Skipton yesterday so no tea. Today I shall cook the lamb chops intended for yesterday with roasties & asparagus. i shall also cook a chilli for tomorrow, I always think it has more flavour if cooked the day before needed.

Extending is great for good cheap food. I had the remains of a packet of spaghetti in the cupboard and so I finished up with almost enough for tea as well. Topped up with a crust with butter and Apricot conserve. Got a piece of Dexter shoulder steak out to defrost slowly in the fridge. I fancy pie and peas for dinner and perhaps a steak butty for tea. All cooking is being done on the stove in the front room so leccy bill will be way down. British Gas aren't making a lot out of me at the moment!

That was fast food for you Moh! I had pie and peas for dinner and a haslet butty for tea. During the day I constructed another industrial scale broth! Two ham hocks, a trotter, some beef trimmings and a piece of shoulder steak, simmered for three hours on the stove and then the liquid drained off, the fat separated and the skin, bones and fat picked out of the meat. Then a veggie cutting fest... onions, Garlic, carrots, small spuds, a swede, parsnips and a small cabbage. Minimum of seasoning and simmered on the stove again for another four hours. It's started to thicken now and after a good simmer today it will be pretty impressive and sterile so I can freeze some. Guess what dinner and tea will be today!
I know, you will be thinking that this old fart lives off butties and broth. You're right, but it's good healthy food and a sensible way for a singleton to cook, no waste and now I've got used to having the stove, no energy costs for cooking either! Luckily I never tire of either of them, this broth would raise dead men!

Froze five helpings of the broth and had it for dinner and tea. Amazing how much broth improves on the second day!

Looked it up. A bit more complicated than mine I think! Had one large helping left yesterday so I made two meals out of it by making bread pobs out of thick toast to bulk it up. I was a good lad and that's all I had all day. Economical, nourishing and not fattening! (I get boring don't I.....)
I have a thick crust left so today I'll have porridge for dinner and cheese or beans on toast for tea. I fancy cooking some meat and having a butty day tomorrow before going back to the frozen broth in the freezer....
I sat watching Italian food being cooked on TV last night and I wanted to cook every dish! However, I shall resist! "My strength is that of ten because I am pure". I enjoy losing weight and feeling so much better too much to give in to temptation.
