I think we are making progress and the meeting will be a good forum to finalise plans. I will leave the technicalities to those who know more than me.

I'm staying logged in on my laptop, but still can't log in from any other computer. I've tried clearing cookies, but I still get a red "you have tried too many times" message.
Any ideas?

Tried here on several different computers, different OSs, different browsers and different logins. No problems. Your end I think.

I never had a problem before the site had it's wobbly. Never mind, it doesn't matter at the moment...I'll keep trying.

Have you tried a different browser ? Chrome or Firefox over IE or vice versa ?. Its not not unusual for browsers to get their knickers in a twist.

No problems with Firefox Wendy. Mind you, my little friends at Ubuntu gave me a complete reload three days ago..... Same for T'bird and the Linux kernel two days ago, good service....

I went back to IE and managed to get on after going through the captcha thingy. Tried again later using Chrome and got in no problem!

When I announced to Col that I could log on again from my tablet (early morning cuppa time...hubby still hanging on to sleep) he muttered something about having "had the problem before" ... "flash" and "takes a while to catch up...." before drifting off again.
I'm no wiser.

Our friends at Ubuntu must have been working hard. 69mb download update this morning that looks like a completely new 12.04 64bit OS. Wonderful free service. Thanks to all!

I'm finding the latest version of Ubuntu a disappointment now that I've started editing a big batch of photos with Gthumb and Gimp. Both of these applications are very clunky in the new OS version due to the new way the top menus work and the poor scroll bars. I have a number of applications open at the same time and it gets confusing as to which has the `focus'. Gimp (which is composed of more than one window) now seems to keep losing focus from the window I'm working on and I have to keep clicking the top bar to get it back. The software developers seem to think that we now only want Ubuntu for tablet devices and the like and for browsing and don't do any `proper' computing nowadays! I expect the news version of MS Windows will suffere the same fate.

As you're probably aware Windows 8 isn't exactly going down well either. Canonical don't seem to have done much backtracking with the 2 (short term) versions of Ubuntu they've brought out since 12.04, so maybe its here to stay. i haven't done much with the other software you mention, but I'd agree that GIMP worked better in the old Gnome 2 interface.

I agree as well but as I'm only working with one pic at a time I'm putting up with it. Certainly better under Gnome.....

Pluggy sent me a PM which I'm unable to reply to because of a "Fatal Error". In responce to the PM I will have to decline, sorry.

Despite the fatal error Kev, the PM is still delivered. The recent crash screwed the code somewhere on the exit routine. Solution being sought.

Roll on Thursday when we meet and finalise the actions needed to mend the site. No doubt the changes will mean a bit more learning but the site will be basically unchanged but far more stable. Sign of maturity I reckon.....

I made this alter ego yesterday when locked out of the site. It created the account but did not set any permissions on the account so I couldn't see any forums when I logged on. Just tweaked it and testing to see if all is working.

It all appears to work so I can now see both sides of the site if I need to.

All beyond me..... But all indications that we need Pluggy's upgrade.

Julie, one of my visitors yesterday used the FMIII to do some of her travel arrangements. She knew what she was doing round a keyboard and pleased me no end by realising straight away that she was on a Linux system and was impressed no end by how fast it was. Like Pluggy she said she wanted one! They live in the Sydney area of NSW and she said that our connection was far faster then theirs, add that to the speed of the machine and I think she went away with something to think about! She didn't question the expense or an old fart like me having one, she saw the point immediately.

Pluggy, have you any suggestions how I can have open two instances of Gthumb in Ubuntu at the same time? I could do this in earlier versions of Ubuntu but not now. It was useful for comparing photos, especially from different folders. I can open a second instance of File Manager, Text Editor and Firefox by right-clicking the application's icon and choosing `Open a New Window' but Gthumb doesn't have this in the right-click menu.

[*While writing this post I found the solution - Gthumb has `New window' in the File menu and that opens further instances of Gthumb. But it would have been helpful if the software developers could be consistent in the way functions are accessed! I've kept this post in OG in case it helps someone else.]
