Big cooking news was that I threw my cooking oil out in good time from the fryer, cleaned it and replaced it with three litres of rape seed oil. (£6.90!) and then fried my sweet potato chips. Then three hot meals.
The thought struck me, how long does a hard up mother leave her cooking oil in the fryer for and what effect does that have on family health? They tell me the chief danger is carcinogens building up in the oil.......

I cooked sweet potato chips in the air fryer, it works very well with just a light brushing of rapeseed oil. I leave the skin on too :good:

But could a hard up mother afford the latest technology?
I roasted my chicken and continued to get the last batch of veggies into a corner.
Carl delivered my meat last night and I put the pork belly in to roast all night on 80C. It looks alright this morning!

Yesterday I had the last of the previous week's cooking for breakfast dinner and tea. I cooked veggies and now I have a fridge full of cooked food ready to sustain me for a week.

I had the new batch meat and veggies for breakfast and tea. I got imaginative and cooked some savoury cabbage during the morning and had a helping of that for dinner. It was really good, I shall be making it again!

Meat and veggies X three and the influence of the savoury cabbage makes itself felt.
Due to vagaries of supply, the mix of veggies changes slightly week on week and this changes the overall taste of the mix. This week it's the cabbage and the cyder vinegar that provide the main taste note!

I had meat and veggies for breakfast and tea but for dinner I treated myself to a fancy. I mashed up a small tin of pilchards with tomato sauce and Lea and Perrins and used the filling on three small oven bottom cakes. Not strictly low carb but I don't think it will cause me any problems!

Meat and veggies X three for breakfast dinner and tea. I shall grill sausages to extend last week's cooking so that I can put veggie cooking off until Thursday.
As I get older I find that the discipline of managing my own cooking and diet every week is a useful way of keeping my life on track. It's almost like going out to work each day and doing a job.

Almost the last of last weeks meat and veggies X three for breakfast dinner and tea as I cooked this weeks veggies.
I have one helping left from last week and that will be my breakfast this morning.

One last meal from last week's cooking for breakfast and then into the new chicken and veggies for dinner and tea. I cooked belly pork in the slow cooker in the afternoon and that will go to augment the chicken and veggies....
Just a thought, look at the difference in price between belly pork and beef steak.... in terms of value for money and total nutrition there is no comparison. I can't remember when I last had steak. I suppose I am a cheapskate!

We are well into this week's cooking and it is on song.
One thing I have learned is that a good glug of cider apple vinegar on the belly pork when cooking it, either boiled or roasted, gives a lovely tang to the meat. Beats cooking in cider any day for me!

A bit o' pudding. Chocolate brownie covered with an orange shell and hot chocolate sauce. Naughty but nice :good:

Pudding for me is an apple..... Probably a good thing that sweet things have no attraction for me.... :biggrin2:
I fried my sweet potato chips yesterday so that's the cooking finished for the week.
Meat and veggies X three yesterday as usual....
