That place has had such a troubled history, As far back as I can remember it has struggled to survive and indeed, at times, failed.
What can you tell me about this pair of beauties?

I'm going to be slightly hard on you. A churn is what you agitate cream in to make butter, these are known in the trade as kits or cans. However there's something special about these kits and that is what I am after.

They might be known in the trade as kits or cans but everyone else knows them as milk churns! (End of popular revolt.)

No Maz, 17 gallons actually. But there's something special about that size and style of kit.
I'll give it another day.

OK, I've cheated!
It is called a churn because of its origin, except "the milk churn was also known as ( Milk Kit ) in the Yorkshire Dales."

From the colour at the top they look made of copper.

All right, I shall come clean. The alternative name for the heavy conical 17 gallon kits was 'Railway Kits' because they were used exclusively for shipping out milk on the early morning 'milk train'. Until the advent of the glass lined railway tank wagons this was the way country milk was delivered to the urban dairies. This replaced the old system of 'cow-keeping' in urban dairies where cows were milked to death in bad conditions and never saw daylight until they went to slaughter.
Next one?

I remember learning about the milk plane which used to come into Blackpool airport early in the morning in the 50/60s. I think it came from the Isle of Man.

Gloria, thanks for mentioning the `milk lift'. I hadn't heard of it before and could find only one source in a web search. I have copied that information (and it's full of detail!) into the Winged Heroes web site here:
The Milk Lift I'm sure the flyers involved deserve to join the Winged Heroes!
Here's a new mystery object....
