Went shopping yesterday so as to avoid the weekend crush, today I hope to go to the library. Eileen

That's the joy of collecting, it needn't be expensive, better if it's cheap because less likely to get stolen and you can afford more! Enjoy them Sue!Sue wrote:[Toby jugs] I've lost count possibly 300+....Not expensive or notable but the fun is in the finding of ones I haven't already got.

That's what I think Tiz. One of my favourite is 'Erbert 'appiday' . A bit of a cheeky tramp. I have him in many colour ways, and he is not expensive.

I think I am a hoarder of unusual things.....
Not fretting about light in kitchen today. Doc called in last night, fitted the new ballast and gave it a thump and it's working now. Big improvement, thanks Doc!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Dog sitting son's brainless Labrador.
We have just worn her out with a tug-of-war, so hopefully we will get a bit of peace.
Son says that we are like boot camp for his dog, because we walk her and play with her, and talk to her all day. She falls asleep sitting up in her car harness on the way home and he has to wake her up when she gets there. He says she sleeps for hours afterward.
We sleep well after she has gone home too!
She is my constant shadow and follows me everywhere. I can't even go to the loo alone. She even follows me from the stove to the sink...which isn't that far...and her favourite thing is when I go in the pantry.

Jack is the same Maz but he has the advantage of being in a good routine so he reads me and makes a decision as to whether it's worth coming with me, whether to bring his hard rubber ball, whether there is the smell of food involved.... It's a hard life!
I shall enjoy feeling guilty as I do nothing but keep warm, read and walk Jack. Someone has to do it!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Having a tidy up in the barn and stacking bales of hay. Yesterday while I was visiting Mum, Col made two trips to a farm the other side of Burnley and brought back 40 bales, he is just setting off for another 20 and will expect me to have made a tidy stack by the time he returns. We bought some from the same place last year and the farmer only wants £3 a bale...Wonderful.
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Gosh...well done Wendy...not something we have to worry about living in the city...getting in bales!
( though I would love to build a straw bale house and that does seem an excellent price).
Get those Wellington boots on old gal...off to the barn with you...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
That's 60 bales stacked and Col is going back for another 20 this afternoon. Should be more than enough to see the boys through this winter...as long as they have the teeth left to chew it!
Next task is to start bringing furniture back into the living room. Bookshelves first....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Always nice to have the barn full at the beginning of winter. I'll bet your store cupboards are the same, you can't pop to the shops if you're snowed in. I could survive for a long time, very old-fashioned strategy for town dwellers these days. Funny but your post brought back a memory of a farmer called Lapin at Bradford where I brought away three loads of the best seed hay I have ever seen in my life, I can still see it, shiny, almost white and lovely quality. Funny thing was it was all picked up in the field and they were very small and on a hillside, made loading straight a bit tricky! Another strange thing was that his main source of income was breeding rabbits for the table.... Lapin?

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
You're right about the store cupboard Stanley...especially as Col (who is the shopper in the family) likes to hunt out a bargain and buy in bulk when things are on offer. I think we could survive for a couple of years at least!
Going for a walk around Ickornshaw today with a new friend I have made through helping with her family history research.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Wendy, I once talked to an old farmer in Scotland and he told me about the way they survived during the winter. Once the peats were cut and carted they made sure they had Bags of oats, spuds, salted bacon and mutton pickled in brine in barrels. If they were particularly flush they'd have a barrel of salted herring as well. People sometimes look askance when they find out I buy oatmeal and dried peas by the sack but they don't go off and are good basic foods. Buying like that makes them dirt cheap. Have a look at this LINK for the mill I favour for oatmeal. Chowdrey's in Barlick will get you a bag of dried peas if you ask them. I agree with Colin, if you come across a bargain and it's not perishable, fill your boots!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Cards written, presents wrapped apart from a couple. Ironing this morning then Christmas lunch with my sewing club. This evening it is a carol concert at Hallfold Church in Whitworth. I am busy compiling a family tree book for a friend for Christmas and will have it printed on lulu.com as a private book. I need to get a move on with it as well today.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Stacking books and cds back on shelves, rehanging pictures etc etc. Its hard not to get sidetracked. Feeling a bit delicate after helping to move a quite hefty pine dresser back in from the barn. Down four steps and turn sharp right, down a slope, turn left and up a step, turn right and down 3 steps with immediate left turn and up 2 steps. Phew! Thank heavens its coffee time. Oh dear, I can hear hubby is back working again....
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Wrote Christmas cards and posted the few I am sending by post this year, the lady in the PO said everyone is saying the same thing - sending fewer cards. Have already got 5 cards - one in November.
Say only a little but say it well.
