Just come across this site (mentioned in Your Family Tree mag.) about nutritious & sometimes weird wartime recipes (including mock goose & curried carrots) if anyone fancies trying them.

Might do Red Salmon patties tonight ( real Red Salmon, not 'mock' Red Salmon.). We seem to be in a bit of a mess today, moving furniture about, and Febby is finally attaching the bedroom TV to the wall ( had a smaller one up there before which was good, but now we have a slightly larger one the bracket needed replacing with a more robust sort, hence TV has been sat on an extra piece of furniture). Why a small job like this seems to impact on almost every room in the house, I have no idea, but I've had the Mr. Sheen and a duster in my hand most of the morning! Vac needs to come out soon too.
So if there is any energy left in the tank, it shall be Salmon patties...

I fancy a pressed beef butty today and there is a meat pie lurking in the fridge. Freezer almost empty, have informed Stewart and I shall defrost this week ready for a refill in about a fotnight.

Good Lass Maz, that’s when you lose weight. I always feel like a little bit more after tea but remind myself that it's habit and the way I managed to get to almost 16 stone at one time. Finished the stew yesterday, only half a bowl for tea so reinforced it with a small pork pie and a corner of cheddar cheese. I have the pressed beef for a dinnertime butty today but was thinking about teatime. I got some vacuum packed oxtail from Stewart's on Friday and decided to try cooking it slowly in a water bath inside the package. It must have got slightly too hot because after three hours on the stove the packet had split but not badly enough to colour the water in the pan. Took it out, popped it in a pan and put it in the fridge. I'll get some carrots and swede this morning from the Co-op and with some onions it will have cooked down nicely by teatime. Could be good with some rice.....

I have never tried oxtail and probably never will...eat very little red meat except a bit of top grade beef mince now and then, cooked in various ways.
Defrosted one large chicken breast today and have sliced it thinly, then crumbed it. Shall have that with a portion of Zucchini/Tomato/Onion Bake I made this morning. Might be devilish and have mashed spuds with it.
Still not quite cool enough for long, slow cooking methods ( which I so love).

Oxtail makes lovely gravy Maz and there is very little meat, it's the bones that give it the edge. My plans went astray yesterday because I hadn't realised that the Cathedral of Choice was closed all day for Bank Holiday weekend. So into the freezer for a frozen stew for tea. Dinner was the pressed beef on a toast butty reinforced by two poached eggs. Butty for dinner today and I shall have the oxtail done for tea. I shall cook the onions, swede and carrots down first and then use the resulting water as stock for finishing cooking the oxtail down till it drops off the bone, then bang the veggies in.

We had roast pork with apple, stuffing, roast & new potatoes, broccoli, carrots & roast parsnips yesterday, will be a re-run with cold pork today. Just had a bowl of homemade chicken soup for lunch.

Over at our daughters for tea today. Easter Egg hunt for the children and then roast pork, mashed potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli and Yorkshires.

When I went to the Co-p yesterday for the carrots and swede I noticed that they had a good BOGOF on Boursin cheese so I got two. Very naughty! Had half of one on a toasted butty with a sliced tomato for dinner while the oxtail was cooking slowly. Oxtail and Veggie stew was ready by teatime, it was lovely and will be better still today. Must defrost the freezer today so I'm ready for a refill when Stewart gets round to it.

Mum used to give us oxtail when we where children, it kept us quiet for hours, like a bowl of glue. If you wiped your mouth with a napkin it stuck to your face.

Why does ham go so well with peas? Oxtail stew going down well, mostly veggies in a rich gravy, soul food!

Almost finished the oxtail stew. I boiled some Cyprus spuds yesterday and mashed them so I could extend its life....

Finished the oxtail yesterday, it just got better and better! Butcher's day today so little favourites are on the menu!

Had home cooked haddock, chips & peas yesterday. I have 2 small lamb chops left so I got a couple of pieces of liver, a small piece of ham & 2 sausages so we shall have a .mixed grill. tonight.

Fish fingers and peas. Haven't had them for years and they were responsibly fished and half price. Had a brisket Butty for dinner and used what was left as the base of a stew. Still building it!

Fish finger butties - yum!! We had broth & dumplings yesterday, today it is roast blade of lamb, roast & mash potatoes, cauliflower cheese & carrots.

Yes...I love Fish Finger Butties too. Fish Fingers must be cooked crisp, and I like lettuce, mayo and cheese in the butty too.
Hubby won't eat them, so I haven't had them for many a long year.
I do find it amazing that fishes fingers all grow to the same size..

Made some very tasty beef patties for dinner tonight.
Will do Cabbage, Carrots and Spuds as a slow cooked casserole to accompany ( basically they steam in a little beef stock)
