Hubby and I have just returned from a very short notice journey where we had hoped to stay in the Barlick area. Monks House had no accommodation for this last weekend and the lady who answered the phone, on being asked gave me a couple of place nnames. All well and good except that hubby, bless him just looked at the names and said rooms available at the Craven Heifer. I said book it before it went and then found he'd not looked for the one at Kelbrook but the one at Stirton. Very nice place, but not really where I wanted to be. This was a family matter and we were a bit far away. This situation may arise again so If any of you can let me know of a few reasonably priced B&B's that are not far from Barlick so I can have a list of places to try without having to trawl through hundreds, I would be grateful.
By the way, I would have liked to see the beach but it was closed the night we managed to get there. It was a bit late.

I have had friends stay at the Craven Heifer, Kelbrook, highly recommended. As is The Stone Trough, also at Kelbrook.

Margaret Sharples at Hill Top Farm has a 4 star family flat. Highly recommended. On Manchester Road and handy for town on foot. (LINK)

Thanks for those, Big Kev & Stanley. Hubby was supposed to try the Craven Heifer at Kelbrook but he a Southener and it's a bit difficult to tell him he got the wrong one. Still it was a nice place we stayed at and I thought the staff were very helpful. Any other suggestions wouls be greatly appreciated

That reminds me of the old Beachcomber stories which often featured a boarding house in London which went by the name of `Seaview'.

Ann, my hubby is a 'southener' too ( Essex).
We stayed at a self contained cottage at Foulridge a few years ago, which was lovely ( though I suspect haunted)...but if B&B is more to your taste it would not suit. We are not B&B types, being slightly anti-social and happy with our own company ( and with me quite accustomed to getting up at 3am to have a cup of tea!).
