The heavy rain Jack and I had passed through, the wind dropped and we had long spells of sunshine. Glass fell a bit but then started rising, almost back at 29" now. Flags are damp but no rain at the moment.

Pleasant afternoon yesterday but the rain came again last night. Not raining at present but it's still dark here at present. Eileen

Sunshine and showers again yesterday. Flags are dry this morning and it looks like a re-run. Glass has risen to 29.3" but new lows are moving in. Decent weekend?

London- South Persistant rain all day , the only variation was in the intensity of the falling and the distance between raildrops.

Glass still tending to rise. Almost 29.5" this morning. Could be a nice day. But keep an eye on the lows developing out to the west.

Same here Sue. Leaves are shedding rapidly now. Very close to a frost this morning but dry and calm. Glass is still rising slowly, up to almost 29.7" this morning so we look to be OK till the next low comes in.
I expected the clocks to change to GMT this weekend but see that it is scheduled for the 28th of October. Morning dog walks in the dark! Extra expense for torch batteries to find Jack's deliveries!

No Barlick this morning, just a wonderful sea of low lying mist. Good Autumn weather.

Damp out there this morning but not cold. Funny thing is that the glass is still rising, heading towards 29.8". The Met Office gave a clue, they're expecting a cold snap later in the week.

Overcast day with no exceptional weather. The lull before the storm? Glass has risen to almost 30", highest it's been for a long time. Met Office says we are heading for a much colder, and perhaps dryer, spell later in the week. Get the new boiler in David!

Doing best on boiler front. Quotes in from two local heating engineers (plumbers) who independently recommended Intergas boiler. Waiting for BG to send someone round to quote... Keeping an eye on forecast - and buying a couple of halogen heaters, just in case.

Yes, it was a good gardening day, but I was doing other things. I had to take my friend to the eye hospital, where she got the all clear after her cataract operation. Then I took her to choose and order her new glasses. This was then rewarded with afternoon tea in Russell's in Rochdale.

Oh yes I forgot about the early morning dental appointment! Due to the building of the metro line to Manchester parking was limited so I had to park at Matalan, I then felt compelled to shop there, bought socks, tights and new trousers. I am all ready for winter now.

It was a good gardening day here too...30 degrees but quite a breeze blowing so it didn't feel that hot.
Trimmed and shaped some bushes and 'dead headed' the roses. I was thrilled to see one plant flowering for the first time...three years old and in a pot. I moved it a few weeks ago in case it needed more direct light. Must have worked.
Might do some more today. I am trying to get as much sun as possible to get my low Vitamin D levels up.

Today looks like a re-run of yesterday. Calm, dry and mild. However, the glass reached 30" yesterday but has now dropped back half an inch. This looks like the start of the change which is going to bring in N winds, lower temperatures and snow in the North. First cold blast of winter on the way.

Dry and overcast but cooler. Glass falling slowly, just over 29.7". Forecast has improved, Friday will have the cold northerly wind but the Atlantic systems are to take over again on Saturday with west winds and rain forecast.
Later, at 07:45 after our first walk in the dark this winter. I suppose we'll have to get used to it for the next few months but not as nice as a daylight walk.

Much colder this morning and Shipping Forecast full of gales in the North. Glass is 29.7" and there's a cold wind outside. Snowing in Scotland and it looks like a brief introduction to proper winter weather.

Later, after our walk. It's a white frost and a nippy morning. Glad to be back indoors. I watched the children passing me on the way to school and reflected that they must have constitutions like carthorses! Particularly some of the young ladies.....

I think its the smaller one is , the less area of body skin to lose internal heat out of ( as long as you are moving about to warm up internally ) Maybe they had had their ready-brek ?

Re-run of yesterday. Last night was the coldest one yet. CH cracked on in the early hours even though thermostat is cracked down to 17.5C. N worries about the gas usage, that's what it's there for but a good indicator of how the outside temperature is affecting the house. Cold and dry outside, glass at 29.7". Bright but nippy? Leaves have really started falling now!
