I've got that good feeling today. When I went on to our roof terrace this morning my wife pointed out a baby lizard only about two inches long that was stuck on the tiled floor. It has been 35C here and the floor gets very hot in the sun and retains the heat. Poor little lizard must have stayed in one place too long during the night and the hot tiles had dried its foot pads and it was stuck fast. A pan of warm water from the pond soon had it free and my wife gently collected it on two leaves and released it under our peach tree, hopefully none the worse for its ordeal.

That is heart warming.....

Mrs China has come round from her long held belief that they are dirty creatures and now thinks of them as useful in the garden and house (occasionally).
It could have been a gecko, the nearest picture to it that I've found is the house gecko which is common in hot places, more like a newt than a scaly lizard. To me it was just an ordinary pale fleshy coloured "lizard", very common here. This one was very tiny. The bigger geckos I've recognised here were a pale green and brown flecked colour with a diamond shaped head.
We've just had a shower of rain so there shouldn't be any problems tonight.

You'd have thought Mother Nature would have found a solution to that problem......

I think it's probably because the lizard was not exactly in its natural habitat on a tiled floor. If it was in the bush, scrub, countryside or jungle I doubt if it would be a problem.

Looked genuine to me Stanley. There’s lots of story’s about different species of animals being friends, or parenting/feeding etc. Pity the cat had to be re-located tho.

If you do a Google search, this happened in 2002 and in a different place...

The leopard came to lie down with the cow but the story around it seems to have changed and developed over the years. The original report in The Times of India back in 2002 states that the leopard was a young adult of about a year old when it was first seen so it's unlikely that it ever suckled from the cow. So many people gathered to see it that it was soon frightened off.

Good. Thanks Wendy. I'm glad it wasn't a fake and that is the sort of wildlife story that I like to find.

A Red Kite drifted right over the house just now, it's the first time I've seen one here.

It would be a first for me as well Wendy. I wonder if it's resident or just visiting?

There have been a few reports of sightings around Lothersdale this year so it might be resident.

This creature, looking like a beetle, landed on my sleeve as I sat on the patio last week. It was only about 3mm in length and had similar shape to a ladybird but much smaller. I moved it to a fern plant and then took the photo. The resolution is poor due to low light and wind moving the fern fronds. I sent the photo to the local Wildlife Trust on Thursday morning but haven't had a reply yet. Perhaps, like me, they haven't seen one before!

Green Shield Bug Nymph

Typically around 12-13.5 mm in length. Adults are bright green in the spring and summer but nymphs have darker patches and of course are generally smaller. Resembling more of the Ladybug shape.

Shield Bugs and Shield Bug Nymphs are fairly common throughout the northern hemisphere and fairly easy to identify. They’re known as Shield Bugs in Europe, in North America they could be compared with the Stink Bug.

Well done, Tripps, you've beaten the Somerset Wildlife Trust to solving my problem! The Green Shield Bug Nymph part way down that web page is a perfect match. We get lots of shield bugs here but we had never seen the nymph. Thanks for helping!

I like shield bugs and so does Mrs Tiz but she might be a little bit annoyed with them because she planted some beans and the leaves now have holes in them. The beans are good though!
