I'm hampered at the moment because my eyes are still adjusting after having new lens fitted. However, a quick look reassures me that Ian and Steve have done a good job! There may be the odd image missing but I don't see this as a problem. Please leave comments on this thread if you have anything to say....

Would it be possible for OGFB to put LTP on disc ? and then sell them, might be a way of raising a few bob !

This version of the LTP was produced by deploying the texts and images on a parallel development website and then data mining all the code. The data is read only and is quite large, It all fits on a DVD in its mined version and could be made to run with the addition of a bit of a front end launcher. With the number of images embedded in the threads though it would be very slow.

As a historical archive, the material has always been made freely available. A download section is currently under development and will shortly contain various downloadable packages of the texts and images that make up the project.

Bodge, probably better to forget that idea because it could come under the heading of profitable activity and break the conditions of the HMSO licence.

It's good to know it's back, thanks all of you who did the work on making this important archive readily available again.

Downloads will be coming along in the not too distant future, once we have sorted out the latest additions to the data set.

The photos embedded in text are a treat to come across...brings history to life.

I must confess that I have made several unsuccessful attempts to access this project over the years. Tried again today, and I think I've tamed it. I've accessed for instance- the transcripts, then save them with abbreviated names in a special folder in my favourites. Now I just have to click Emma Jane Clark and off we go.

Forgive me if it's all obvious to everyone else.

This nicely completes the circle, since I first discovered this site whilst searching for oral histories from the Haslingden area, by the late Benita Moore. Well done to SCG, and all those others that facilitated this wonderful venture.

Here's a couple of excerpts which jump out to me

"He had appendicitis and he went into a nursing home in Burnley and it was Dr Sinclair the specialist, and it was before there was anaesthetics you know, and it was cut out and it never healed. It just sapped his life away, never healed, and he died when he was twelve, and he was just ill for three year".

Glad you have found your way round Tripps. Just for the record the new version of the project is presented on the link from data that was prepared on the same bulletin board software (PHPBB) that this site runs on. As such it should not look a lot different to the rest of the site apart from the text size just being slightly smaller. This can be compensated for by utilising the resizing icon near the top right hand side of the page when viewing the LTP. More information about this in the ReadMe topic in this thread.

Roll on my readers and the eye settling down so I can have a proper look.

Made an appointment yesterday for eye test on 2nd of January.... So I shall be hawk eye later in January!

I am still enjoying the LTP transcripts...I get back on there every time I have a few minutes to spare.
The questions Stanley asks, and the info he extracts from the participants...just wonderful. ( love the dialect too in the instances it comes across, and the asides/ comments)

Are any of these old dears still alive? I expect not. They have left an amazing legacy...

A couple are still about Maz but you're right, most are long gone. Nice to know you are actually reading them! I got them just in time. That's one of the reasons why the LTP is so important, it's a lost world now and nobody can ever do the exercise again. I can't wait to get the images straightened out and let Ian finish the job.

Gus has uploaded the Steam and Stream Video made for the town onto the Facebook page for Barlick pictures that he is managing. I have added a link from there back to the LTP 2013 on here. They certainly compliment each other

This project is what led me to the site years ago, and it's great to see that time has been taken not only retain it but to add pictures, a great idea. A big thanks to Stanley for all his primary work and to those that have helped make it what it is today, well done!
What I can't find is a search engine on it, in the past I could type in certain terms and it would take me to the pages with that term in it, is that still available? Be great if it could be.

Glad that you are enjoying the enhancements Belle. Originally the LTP was deployed on the old site as dynamic HTML so the built in site search would work on that content.

The problem with that deployment was that it was not exactly portable between platforms so the decision was made to convert the whole project to static HTML pages after embedding the images in the threads. This makes the project a lot more versatile for the future. Unfortunately there is no global search facility accross all the content, however you can use your browsers "find" utility (normally on the browser edit menu) to search individual loaded threads.

Now Stanleys eyes are mending up, it should not be long before we can populate the new download section. We added a good number of extra images above what was originally available so the download options need redeveloping. Just waiting for Stanley to pass me the updated image folios which will come once he has his new reading glasses. There will be a few more choices for the various download options available.

The rework of the project which has entailed re-editing every transcript and deploying the project on a separate platform so we could prepare the data has taken about 9 months, including configuring the development platform, mining the finished data and redeploying on here. A few more weeks should see this revision of the project completed.

Glad you like it Belle, it was a lot of work to get the images in the text but I got there in the end. As Ian says there is still one small task to accomplish, the upgrading of the image files and as soon as I get my readers (This week hopefully) I shall get that done and we can finish the refurb.
Ian, It's that long since we talked about this I need you to bump the conversation we had where we decided exactly what I was going to do! I know it's in here somewhere! (At the moment it's still a pain to read the screen....)

Or do a search across the whole LTP by specifying the LTP domain in a Google Advanced search, as follows:

Look for the box alongside the words `site or domain' and then copy this LTP domain web address and paste it into the Google box (click `show spoiler' to see the LTP domain web address): Now put the words you wish to search for in the top box alongside `all these words' (or you can choose one of the other options). Now click the Advanced Search Button at the bottom of the page. That's all you have to do but of course you can use other options in the advanced search page to fine tune your searching.

I did this for Tripps's Emma Jane Clark and got four results - see pics below showing first the Google Advanced Search page and then the results.
