Hello and thank you for letting me join the site. I have lived in Barlick all my life, I have recently moved into Calf Hall Cottage on Calf Hall Lane. I know it used to be two cottages which were knocked into one but wondered if any any members know more of the cottages history or has any pictures.

I'm guessing at
https://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=53.91513, ... 95.23,,0,3
It was part of Frank Wharton's farm when my dad farmed Cow Pasture just over the hill.

Calf Hall Cottage is at the end of the lane past Higher Calf Hall Farm, its just hidden by a tree on the google map. I have heard that the cottage dates back to the 16th Century

Hi Deborah, I'm tracing the history of my house and it's a slow but fascinating process! If you have any deeds to the property dated before 1970 you can start to trace the ownership back using the
West Riding Registry of Deedsin Wakefield.

Hi Deborah, here is my picture of the geese that used to live in the field next to Calf Hall Cottage (near to where your wall is being rebuilt)

Deborah, one clue for you.... If you go digging on the site and look for mentions of the Cistercian monastery (and watch Stanley's View for the current articles) you'll find there is a monastic connection with your area. From the time the monks abandoned Barlick to build Kirkstall Abbey until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th C Calf Hall was a grange of Kirkstall, they still controlled land in Barlick and had a farm there staffed by Lay Brothers. Lots to dig into on the site!
