Wendy started the View From Up Here topic to post pictures from where she lived, rather than from where I live! So here's somewhere I'll put a pic on from time to time.

A frosty morning today. I waited until the sun had cleared the eastern hills to get this one.

Nice pic David. It was a bit slippy coming down from the top of Weets this morning...not many people out and about up there!

I was the only one on the top when I was up Weets yesterday Wendy. Odd ones coming down but had it to myself when I trigged out.

Liz, Weets is the local name for Whitemoor, most likely a corruption of 'white'. Trigged out is rabid tendency walker speak for having reached the concrete trigonometrical point on the summit used in the old days by the Ordnance Survey to map the country by triangulation.

We've been avoiding field and fell for the last month or so since it started chucking it down every 12 hours. Walks have been on paved paths or tracks. Yesterday was no exception, though we risked skirting Rolls-Royce Ghyll Brom from the canal tow path as the ground was firmed up with frost.

Another trig point to aim for is the one at the top of Pendle Hill.

The picture below shows the slither of Pendle that we can see from Bank Edge.

Liz, surely you must know Weets Hill, the lump that sits to the south west of town? Were you about 9 or 10 when you left Barlick for the land down under? Only a little hill by proper hill standards but a good one for a circular 4.5 mile yomp, sorry brisk walk.

I'm a bit jealous of your view of Pendle and Ingleborough David, I lose one behind Kelbrook Moor and the other behind Bleara. Can't complain though!
We didn't stay long at the trig point yesterday, it was bitter cold in the wind. Ate a chunk of Xmas cake and set off again quickly.
I'm not inspired to take pics of my own view just now, its all mud and puddles.

Planning permission 13/13/0600P made it into the Lancashire Telegraph today, no comment from Pendle

I was 13 when we left so I've got no excuses. I remember sitting on the swings in Victory Park, and walking around the graves in Ghyll Churchyard. Does that count?

Liz. Yes, Gill churchyard is the dead centre of the town.

Wendy, we're almost as thwarted as you with our views of Pendle and Ingleborough. From our house, we can only see the latter by hanging out of the attic window during winter when the leaves are off the trees.

One hill in plain view from our front windows is Waddington Fell. Here it is pictured the other day. Rolls-Royce buildings on the opposite side of the canal in the foreground with the sewage works beyond them.

Looking over Barnoldswick, on the skyline of Weets, is Prospect Farm, with its heads. Higher View can be seen a little lower down to the right.

I could get very used to that. ( live in the " burbs" just ten mins from city centre...it has it's advantages, but no view...unless I was to get excited about across-the-road-neighbour leaving their bins out all week!)
We are lucky because it is very quiet here, but have a lot of odd folk living around us.
I'd like to be surrounded by people who are really into their gardens, but by the look of most of our neighbours they wouldn't know one end of a lawn mower from the other. ( nice as they are, they come under the title of "bone idle")

Here's another picture from the other day. This is of the site of Bank House. Over the last year, the new owner of the land has cleared self seeded trees, exposing the rubble tipped on the site from a demolished chapel.

The owner has put in an outline planning application for the site of Bank House and the surrounding land for mixed use including housing, allotments, a forest school area and moorings.

I don't know what standards applied in the 1960s; nowadays, such tipping would soon lead to people reporting it and action being taken.

Unfortunately, any pics taken today would be just like looking at a cloud... will have a look at my back catalogue to see if there's anything interesting to post.
