Cloud clinging to the top of Weets this morning.

The steam from Bankfield gives me an instant weather report when I open the curtains in a morning. Wind speed and direction are easily seen. With lower temperatures, the apparent volume is greater.

I have to go into the bathroom to see if the pressure has risen or fallen over the previous 24 hours; if it's fallen, shampoo (stored upside down) will be pushed out of the bottle by the higher pressure air in the bottle...

Everything looks a bit flat this morning, so here's one from Monday afternoon.

Looking south west from Bank Edge, behind the branches you can just make out the wind turbine on the hillside and, if I'm not mistaken, Wendy's a little lower down the hill.

Yes, I'm just below the turbine, my view of your end of Barlick is blocked by the lower slopes of Bleara.

Is it the farm above you that can just be seen in the picture? (To the right of the turbine and slightly lower down?)

I'm struggling to make it out David, its not very clear. There is a wall picking up the sun almost in the centre of your shot, with an electricity pole in the corner of the field behind it. That is the corner of my field (where the tups were gathered), so if the farm you can see is to the right of that then its Brown Hill, which is the roof you can see in most of my view photos. If its higher and to the left then it will be Higher Burnt Hill.

I've mistaken the electric pole Wendy refers to for the wind turbine higher up (and out of view). So that's clear then...

No doubt that this is the radio mast near Thornton. Taken last week against a morning sky.

Here it is without camouflage.

Glad that's sorted! I couldn't make out the turbine...I thought you must have better eyesight than me.
Actually, I thought it was left a bit on the skyline, but that might be another electricity pole. Can you take the photo again on a clearer day please?

A striking feature of pictures taken decades apart is the growth of trees over the years.

Grandad pollarded some beech trees before I was born. Nowadays they are magnificent mature trees on part of our southern boundary.

Northward, I notice that we can no longer glimpse Ingleborough through bare winter branches due to the increase in the canopy.

I've noted the same thing in large numbers of before and after views I have posted. One thing we forget is that apart from trees not being protected pre-WW1, many were cut down in 1926 for fuel. Arthur Entwistle said that it was impossible to buy and axe or a saw in the town.

When looking for a link posted on another topic, I remembered I'd put some drumlin photos on the Visit Barnoldswick site; here's the link if you want to have a look: http://www.visitbarnoldswick.co.uk/expl ... ploreid=49

Another 'different' view of the town! Doesn't Newfield Edge stand out well. Looking at Holy Trinity church reminded me that I saw a recent report about the roof leaking. Do you remember when it was first built with the copper-covered square tower which had to be removed and the spire substituted because they couldn't cure the leaks?

I often wonder what they burn at Crow Nest. That faint blue haze indicates liquid fuel and the only one that is economic these days is Chemfuel(?) I forget the right name but it's used solvents and when Castle Cement used it there was huge controversy about the emissions, they were thought to contain dioxins.

I think the extraction system from the machines is linked into the flue. Judging by the temperature when I've been in the building, there doesn't seem to be any space heating...
