Relaunch of Craven's Part in the Great War Website.
Posted: 24 May 2015, 19:08
Diary Date
Thursday 11th June at Skipton Town Hall 5-30 to 8-30.
Re-launch of the Craven’s Part in the Great War Website.
The original brief was to take the book “Craven's Part in the Great War” as its starting point and core source of information. Each entry in the book was expanded with additional information gathered from Soldiers Died in the Great War, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and with further material from the pages of the Craven Herald & Wensleydale Standard, the West Yorkshire Pioneer & East Lancashire News (the two newspapers which covered the Skipton Parliamentary Division, and which eventually merged to become the Craven Herald & Pioneer), and other sources as deemed relevant. It also correlated the names in the original book with the names commemorated on War Memorials in the 'Craven' area.
The data was presented on the www.cpgw.org.uk website. This event is to launch the upgraded and much improved version of the site.
Earby and District Local History Society has been invited, together with other societies and organisations, to have a display stand at the event.
There will be a short address by military historian, Professor Peter Doyle.
Light refreshments available.
Come along if you can.
