Took the door off to fill the old hinge rebates in the frame, just waiting on it drying now and I can sand and paint

The other door to the dining room is almost the right shape now. The hole is all over the place, wider at the top, not level and the whole thing leans to one side Other than that it's perfect and it looks better the the one that came out.

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
It can be quite amazing can't it Kev, how distorted door frames can be in an older house.....
(Bit like me actually, I have gone a funny shape as I have got older..... )
It's looking good, they'll never see the shape off the Ribble.....

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
The doors upstairs, that are being replaced with the 'old' doors from downstairs, are fortunately smaller. I will cut them down to size at some point this week (I'm working so it may not be until Sunday) and fit them.
A fresh coat of paint on them all will finish the job nicely

When do you stop 'improving' Kev?
I find it a lot easier, as I get older, to live with gentle decay....

It's ongoing maintenance really, the bathroom door got damaged when the handle broke off and I couldn't get out...

Off shift now so I can concentrate on painting the dining room door and filling the old hinge rebates in the frame. Cutting the 'old' doors to size will probably happen tomorrow.

Door recycling today, the old dining room door has been cut down to size and fitted on the bathroom. There's a bit of filling, sanding and painting to do but it fits in the hole and it opens and closes.

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
Thank you kindly
Today was a bit more interesting, the door I used for my office was a funny shape and the frame was pretty much square (1970's stud wall). A cunning plan was needed so extra timber was added to the door and it was then cut to size, it looks a bit strange at the moment but will blend in once the fine surface filler is sanded, a good coat of primer/undercoat and a final coat of gloss no one will ever know

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
I once ruined a door I was fitting for a couple. (I replaced it..... ) and took it home where I did the same thing and it made a perfectly good back door for over 15 years until, the big refurb.....
They'll never see it off the Ribble.

Invisible mending, just needs a coat of gloss and the handles.

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
I have a miscellaneous project. I fixed the broken connection in the wiring of the vertical Mill but it hasn't fixed the problem. Can anyone recommend a good electrician please. I need help.
Later.... I went in and tried a couple of ideas but didn't do any good. I am not happy, please give advice......

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
And I thought that perhaps you were going to recommend a sparks..... Ah well...
Later..... It's a bugger when you are driven... I went to bed but couldn't sleep for thinking about my milling machine so I got dressed, came downstairs and went onto tinternetwebthingy and had a furtle. The first thing I found was that the equivalent of my mill costs £1,859, Mine cost just over £300 when I bought it about 30 years ago.... This is the first thing that has ever gone wrong with it and it is as tight as the day I bought it so I think I got a bargain!
After some digging I found the starter button for that mill which is different but has the added note that it is a good upgrade for older machines. It looks the right size and so I have ordered one, £43 inc. VAT and delivery.
I have decided that the motor is OK and even if it isn't and needs work I still need a new starter button.
Hopefully that has scratched my itch so I shall go back to bed and try for a sleep......
As I said, it's a bugger when you're driven!
Here's the switch.
