I remember some of these faces but putting names to them has proved to be "challenging"

Is there still a budget for music?

I don't know whether you are on Facebook Mick but there is a local FB page for Barlick Modern Memories which may be a good place to drop the picture. You might get some names for faces.

Thanks Ian but I don't do Facebook.
Or Twitter :)

Linda Bolland perhaps, the girl furthest to the left ?

I popped the picture up yesterday and here are the replies so far:

Malcolm Ball
Looks like the Wiseman twins are there on back row

Ian Lambert
Stood at front left is Linda Bolland and at the right on same row looks like Margaret Taylor. I think you are right with the Wiseman twins Malc.

Ken Judson
Kevin Bradley middle front, great musician. Few other names Steph Whitely, Phil Jackson? Stuart Boyle, Chris Boyle, Eric Dawes, Eric Massey,? Berry, Pete Brennan, Kevin Bolland, Barry Grave, not sure if Les Prenton is there. And me.

Malcolm Ball
Ken Judson I recognise some of those names but can’t place them on the picture. The Boyles in particular I was friends with Chris

Ken Judson
I think Chris Boyle is back row 4th from the left, could be wrong. Stuart is right hand side with the cornet in front of David Wiseman with the tenor horn.

Ingrid Haydock
Looks like my elder brother right in the middle, with his left arm across the instrument. Remember him with a trombone.

Great replies ! Thanks Ian.

I'm not sure about Margaret Taylor, Ian. I loved her from afar at Barlick Modern (Don't tell her husband) :biggrin2:
The girl to the right of Linda Bolland isn't Linda? Rochester is it?

I think the Boyles had a shop in Barlick. As kids we used to play 3 card brag in their cellar for pennies.

Our class register for the boys is tattooed on my brain:
Aldersley
Atkins
Bolton
Brett
Bridges
Collins
Cox
Doe
Dylan
Earnshaw
Hebden
Lambert
Neave
Nevadonski (sp)
Nutter
Pearce
Redsell
Robinson
Smalley
Whiteoak

A good memory for the lads Mick.

When I mentioned Margaret Taylor I meant the lass at the other end of the row with the spotted socks on. Or is it Margaret Greenwood? If the latter she is married to Bob Brown.

I'll put some first names to the lads:

Colin Aldersley (Gargrave)
Paul Atkins (still in town - my best man)
David Bolton (still around)
Mick Brett
Roy Bridges
Michael Collins
Michael? Cox
? Doe
Mark Dylan (or George depending on how he felt at the time)
Paul Earnshaw (still around)
John Hebden (Gargrave)
Ian Lambert
Pete Neave (we share the same birthday)
Nevadonski (sp) Don't remember that name Mick. Could you be referring to Waldamar Zarziki? (Waldo)
Mark Nutter (no longer with us)
Jack Pearce
Chris Redsell
? Robinson (Robbo)
Alan Smalley
Keith Whiteoak

That could well be Margaret wearing spotted socks, but she would have been Wilkinson not Greenwood. I'm seeing her this morning so I'll ask.

Yes, my apologies to Margaret, I should have remembered that, I have named her twice incorrectly.

Margaret Brown has confirmed that she is indeed the girl with the fancy socks, but they were tartan not spotted! :laugh5:

Alexander Doe

Nevadonski (sp) was only in our class for the first year then I think his family moved away. They lived on the ranch, end house on Kenilworth Drive

Kevin Robinson. Another Kenilworth drive lad. Like me he often put pushbikes together out of various bits he had hanging around and sold them for profit. He also introduced me to "Jetex Engines". Small solid fuel power sources used for driving model cars etc.

I remember for the first week or so Paul Atkins leading our class from room to room when we changed lessons. He knew his was around the building because his dad was, or used to be, the caretaker there.

Mark Nutter was a tall, ginger haired lad. He lived close to the petrol station on Barlick new road.

I'm very impressed by the fact that you can remember so many names. The only ones I can remember from grammar school are the lad who bullied me for three years and my two cycling mates because we spent all our spare time together tiding and getting so fit you wouldn't believe it.

Aye, Paul lived at the school house which came with the caretaker job at the time. The family then moved to Wellhouse Road. First port of call on the walk up to school, then on to David Boltons on Rainhall Road, his mum was always baking and there were often buns on offer. We generally met up with Roy Bridges who was coming up off Coates estate and sometimes Pete Neave as well.
