Is this Barlick?
Is this Barlick?
This is in my "old Barlick Pictures" folder and is titled Whit Monday 1950.
Is it Barlick or should I move it to my generic old pictures folder?
Someone obviously wants to point out one particular kid on it.

Re: Is this Barlick?
I breathed on it a bit but nothing shouts Barlick at me. It almost looks like Water Street in Earby but I'm not sure.

Re: Is this Barlick?
I don't recognise it as Barlick and that isn't a Barlick Wagon either....

Re: Is this Barlick?
The girls are definitely Barlick lassies. Our good friend Linda MacSween (Hewitt) and my Sister in Law Christine (Butler) are on there as it's Barnoldswick Girl Guides. I suspect it's a gala float. Coop branch 4 was at the end of Fernbank Ave so that would make sense if it was part of the gala procession which used to start at the bottom end of Gisburn Road by the Fosters Arms. I reckon they would get a wagon from anyone that was willing to drive them round. Have we any pictures of Branch Number 4?

Re: Is this Barlick?
Can' find one in the gallery but I reckon this Google Street View nails it. This is what was the former Coop No 4 branch building. The only feature that remains is the ornate buttress which is the same as in the original photo.

Re: Is this Barlick?
Left of the buttress looks like original with an added door and window. Right hand side looks like new build which of course it would be when the shop front was taken out.
My sister in law Christine is the girl second from the right sat down. I think Linda our friend is to the left of the smaller girl on the float.

Ian.
Going off the approximate age of the girls you know could you hazard a guess to when the photo was taken?

Ahh, thanks Kev. I didn't know about it and was confusing Fernbank with Fernlea! Thanks to you I am now au fait!

Re: Is this Barlick?
Just a note, you covered all the Barlick branches in your three part feature on "Cooperation in Barnoldswick". It's where I confirmed it was branch No. 4, I remember it of course but not which number it was, it was my first port of call.

Yes Ian probably so but I am human and sometimes forget things.... I'm not frightened to admit it.
