Barlick Fish & Chips & Ginger Beer.

Post by Zeke »

Was thinking about Barnoldswick today when I was 9-10 years of age. My parents would give me some pocket money every Saturday so I could treat myself to a movie over at the Majestic theater and after that some fish n chips and a bottle of ginger beer on Church Street. I remember they would wrap the fish n chips in a piece of newspaper and it was so delicious. Ah! the good ole days :-)

Fish and chips always tasted better eaten out of newspaper and walking home on a cold night. (with lots of salt and vinegar!)

Me and my big sister used to get a bag of chips (and scraps of course) for on our way home after the flicks and bop club. Finishing time always seemed to be at the same time as the level crossing was shut for shunting so we had to wait to get down Wellhouse Road and home.

Here in Chicago, Illinois, there a a few places that serve fish n chips, but they don't compare to those in England. There is one pub (The Duke of Perth) that serves good fish n chips.

My mate David Moore once pointed out to me that you can buy fish and chips in every great hotel in the world. They may give it a different name but it's always there.
