WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO OGFB?

What brought you to OGFB?
We all know Stanley’s story, thank you Stanley, but what about the rest of us?
I think it’s a great question. All of us, most of us, have mentioned our story ‘here and there’, across many topics, but how about we put our connection to OG onto one topic.
Were you or your ancestors born in Barlick or close by?
If not, what brought you to Barlick - a partner, a job/career, cost of housing, change of scenery?
Or are you connected to OG because you noticed something on the internet that came from OG, and you made a connection?
Marilyn and I were born in Barlick, we moved to Australia in 1964.
In 2004/5 ish I came across Pluggy’s website about Barlick. (

). A little while later Marilyn came across OG. The rest is history.
What brought you to OG?
What’s your connection with Barlick or its close surrounds.
To those who post back ‘Thank You’. Let’s get it all together.

My wife's sister and brother in law moved to Barlick in 1985 and we (my wife and 3 sons) visited at least once a year. In 2004 we both gave up our jobs and moved from Kent.
My wife's brother in law's uncle (try to keep up

) had bought Hey Farm, from Stanley, which is what brought them to Barlick. My three sons have all settled with families of their own, one in the first house I bought in Barlick, another is in Padiham with his Australian wife and the third in Harrogate with his family. Me and Paulette moved to Foulridge 6 years ago but will, potentially, look at moving back to Barlick when I retire in a couple of year's time.
I first found the OGFB site when Doc (David O'Connor) the founder and original admin. I met him a few times before he went galavanting around the world in a boat. I first met Stanley outside the Post Office Buildings, he was out walking his dog (was it Jack the lurcher?) and I surprised him with 'hello Stanley, I'm Big Kev'

What a good idea Cathy. I hope the other members will take up the baton and tell us how they got here.

I have no connection to Barnoldswick, but was told about OGFB by a friend who I worked with at Open Door in Colne. I was looking for the history of Lower Burnt Hill where I live. I found that John Clayton had posted about the Procter family who live here in the 19th Century but he drifted away from the site at about the same time I joined. It didnt take long for me to be hooked on the site!
Much later I found a wartime photo of my father with names written on the back. One of the others in the group was Cyril Clayton, John's father.
Still here years later.

Not sure of the date so I went looking on the archive site for clues. Earliest accessible post (as the mirror taken is corrupted) was 2007 but I think it was some time before that as I had over 2000 posts in Feb 2007. I could have been not long after the old site went live which would be 2004. I think I was just browsing the internet and came across the site. I can tell from a Feb 2007 post that I was a site moderator at the time as I mentioned moving a topic from one forum to another. So I reckon my original membership pre dates 2007 by quite a while.

I first came on one guy when I was looking into something to do with my family history. I cannot for the life in me remember what that was

. I’ve been on here pretty much ever since. There is such a mine of information on here that any question asked will prompt answers.
I’ve tried to find my first post and I can’t seem to get back that far, can anyone find it for me please?

Such a shame that we lost the first iteration of the site in 2012..... Everything dates form then. When that happened I tried to re-post everything significant that was on the early site and in my archive at home.
I had forgotten about the connection between Hey Farm and Kev.....

Your first post on this platform was:

Forum: Introductions
Topic: Hi, I'm Doc - Site Administrator
From your post it does seem you were on the previous platform before it crashed.
It's hit and miss finding posts if you were on the old site which I am fairly certain you were as the mirror taken of the old site was after it crashed so it is not complete. You cant search on it either as it is a direct mirror. You can try to find posts that you made manually in topics if they are retrievable. I have had a quick look through all the ones in the history section and can't find you Gloria. Some of them bomb when you get a couple of pages down.
Apart from the first page of the membership list there are only 6 pages from 200 available and all seem to be user names starting with L. So no joy there either.

Just for the record on this platform you can get to all of your posts on here via the membership list. Find and select yourself in the list, (or anyone else). There is an option in the membership record to Search Users Posts. You get a complete list with a few lines of each post which you can access by using Jump to Post.
