The keen eyed will see that I made a mistake with the date of Lens death. It was actualy January 2004 when he passed away. My sincere apologies for the error. It was another former local Labour Councillor Frank Clifford that died recently, RIP Frank.

Michael Culver has died aged 85.

If you want to feel really old - try this. I had vaguely heard and seen this chap, but only in the context that I remember seeing his father, Roland Culverlive on stage in a play in London in 1973.

Sorry to hear abut Doug's death. My memory of him is of a bloke who came to me at Bancroft and talked sense about how and why we were being closed down. He didn't have to, he just thought I should know the truth.
That is a pretty admirable trait in a politician.

A bit 'off the wall' but a very memorable Google experience.

I learned from the Failsworth Independent Party's Facebook page that Warren Bates a former Councillor had died. I thought little of it until gradually over a few days, I realised that the name Warren and the picture of this face were vaguely familiar. Councillor Warren Bates.

Remember my anecdote about throwing the winning dart at a Manchester log end dart board? You must do. . Well- I thought I recognised him as the Landord of the 'Garibaldi' at the time, and it seems he was. Garibaldi Inn Gorton.

Seems he went on from that job to many others, and was quite (in)famous in Oldham Council.
This gives the flavour of things. Councillor Warren Bates

Foregt the TV 'dramas' , There's more entertainment to be had by following Oldham politics. :laugh5:

See THIS BBC obituary for Duane Eddy.
American guitarist Duane Eddy - hailed by many as one of the founding fathers of rock and roll - has died aged 86. His death occurred on 30 April in Franklin, Tennessee, his wife Deed said. The cause was cancer. The Grammy-winning artist had a run of instrumental hits in the 1950s and 60s. He reached the charts again in 1986 with a remake of his song Peter Gunn. He was called the King of Twang for his distinctive style. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. In 2008, the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum also made him its inductee. "Duane inspired a generation of guitarists the world over with his unmistakeable signature 'Twang' sound," Eddy's representative was quoted as saying by Variety's website. "He was the first rock and roll guitar god, a truly humble and incredible human being. He will be sorely missed."

I remember Duane Eddy, there have been a few guitarists with a similar style. I saw Bert Weedon perform 50 years ago (that makes me feel old :biggrin2:).

Bernard Hill has died today. We went to the same school, though he was a couple of years after me and I was unaware of him. From Yosser Hughes to the Duke of Norfolk in Wolf Hall. . .
