Well done and thanks, Wendy and Ian! :good:

Our attention was grabbed yesterday afternoon while at a garden centre on the A38 near Wellington. The sound of a single piston engine coming our way then the sight of a Spitfire flying very low immediately over us. Merlin music! It was obviously tracking the A38 north-east to south-west and probably on its way to Exeter airport (old style navigation under the cloud cover!). The Spitfire Flying School (aka Boultbee Flight Academy) does flights in a two-seater and also trains Spitfire pilots.
NB. Have a look at the Winged Heroes page for a couple of photos of an unusual aircraft and an amazing incident!

Best day out we've had for ages! Almost forgot why we were at the garden centre. By the way, the BBMF Lancaster is out of it's maintenance now and might be out and about.

Yes I noticed that on my Instagram feed. I don't follow many people but I do keep my eye on the BBMF via that platform.

One of my abiding memories is of a Lancaster, a Spitfire and a Hurricane flying low over Ellenroad heading NE one afternoon. 6 Merlins having a concert. But then one day a Spitfire with a Griffon in it entertained Barlick. Was it the Rolls Royce Spitfire? That Griffon snarls where the Merlin purrs. Never forgotten it.

Yes, the Rolls Spitfire is Griffon powered.

I know one is not supposed to comment, but the size of some of the women in Colne! I don't necessarily mean fat. There were some very big ladies.

We went to Skipton again yesterday, the Main Street is back open on market days, a big mistake I think. There were still quite a lot of stalls which was good to see, but I didn’t notice many people looking at them and buying stuff. Had lunch at Bizzie Lizzies overlooking the canal. Good run along the A59. Very nice day was had.

I'm sorry to hear that Gloria. I agree, a retrograde step. The car rules. OK?

This item from the Craven Herald about a chap measuring the depth of water in The Strid at Bolton Abbey. It's a very scary place!

That's a good story, Wendy - a mind-boggling depth, it must be following a geological fault line!

Royal Mail.

How can this be described as tracking?

I will know where it is when they have delivered it.

The Strid.... That's interesting and a scary depth Wendy.
Love the pics as usual, the one that grabbed me was the workers cleaning the pool at the Taj Mahal. They would have spoiled Diana's photo opportunity!
Kev, breathtaking stupidity... Someone got paid for dreaming that one up!
What is grabbing me each morning is how dark it is. Hard to believe we had long days a few weeks since...

The P&O cruise ship that I'm booked on in February. It'll be the biggest one we've been on, it looks very nice.

The oil cooler on the Yeti has sprung a water leak. They're made of plastic and, apparently, it's a common fault with the 1.6 tdi engine. The part is 20% of the actual £500 repair cost, the joys of motoring
I watched a YouTube video of what's involved in changing the part, there's so much that needs stripping out of the engine bay just to get to it.

Sorry to hear that Kev. Surprised it is plastic when dealing with the pressures and temperatures inherent in the water and oil systems. I hope you have better luck with the new one!

The current one is 9 years old and the car has done 100,000 miles, I would imagine stuff is starting to wear out. A plastic part, bolted to a metal engine block, is going to get a lot of stress from different expansion rates, if it lasts another 9 years it'll do for me. It should be ready to collect this afternoon, I have a courtesy car so the only real inconvenience is in my wallet.

I stand corrected on the cost breakdown for the oil cooler, the £100 coolers are pattern parts. Mine has been replaced with a genuine Skoda part, £347 +vat and £100 +vat labour. Still the same £500 and hopefully a better quality part.

I watch modern prices, think about the saga Mick had with his Toyota and the astronomical costs of that, and wonder how much an hour I am worth on Mrs Harrison. :biggrin2:

Average wage, for a lathe 'operator', in the UK is around £13 an hour.
